heh, I just noticed my sig from when I signed up last summer. Apparently the bike I had was a KZ1100, not a KZ1000...

the motor is the best part..paper work and title and back fees and part here part there and you will have 3K into it and still need to do a thing and there...3k easy and it wont be right..my 2 cents.....the motor is the selling point imho
part the rest and keep the motor maybe save it for a rainy day...fix it up...but be ready to lie to the old lady once in while when she asks what your buying this time

Back fees? Never paid a dime of those in IN or MI, even NO title costs $75 in court costs and $30 in title fees in IN... MI was easier by far still.

Minus paint you could easily have a decent rider for $1500 or so. Parting out bikes cuz it is easy or what you want to do ain't worth it in the long run IMHO. Hell, after my Z1 just got ripped off my ole lady needs a bike and something like that would be exactly what I would look for.

My .02 cents

if you want to do that i would suggest a xs650 yamaha.
what you have there sir is a muscle bike and should be treated as such.

here is what i would suggest you do to your bike.

taking one of these kz900/1000 and making a chopbobcafe would be like taking a ss396 camaro and making a lowrider out of it.

can you ?
sure.
should you?
no.

is everyone else that knows anything about these bikes gonna appreciate the way you molested your bike.
doubtful.are you going to make them mad because you chopbobbedcafed prolly.

that my .02 fwiw.

About the 7th bike down on you photos is the black ltd. That is exactly how i want my bike to look, its an 81 ltd. Those are really cool looking wheels too.

those cool looking wheels...their called tires..and those would get you killed on 90% of real world riding..that is why only hardly's and bikes from old black and white photos have them...you sound like a you want to clown around so go ahead...that bike would be in my shed by now...and this post is a yank session imho... if it was closer to me ,and i was in the mood for another bike, it would be turned back into a legend, these bikes are the best ever made..the best bike ever made...just the way they came...hands down..best bike ever built...and from there could very easy with skill and small mods be made into legends......you have another goal in mind...good luck..be safe

i have a 76 kz900 thats going to get that type of treatment as well  .that streetracer look is never going to go out of style.

on your 81 it really needs the subframe reworked to be able to use the seat, tail, side covers from an 80 and you could pull this look of with your 81 with a j-motor !
that would be sweet :woohoo: .
