'82 KZ1000 Restoration (Wifes bike, mine next)

I have an 82 kz1000 I am currently restoring for my wife to replace her 2013 FZ6R Yamaha. My first bike was an 08 Mean Streak so I am partial to Kawasaki. Wrecked the Meanie when road switched to gravel in a curve and I was going 50. Cracked ribs, etc. Was back on a bike in 2 weeks. So had to get a new bike. This is when I found the KZ and was hooked right away.

Found my 79 KZ in St. Louis and started minor to work a little on the restore when I came across the 82 in Kansas and picked it up for my wife. Switched to that one, will have it restored first but just a restore, no cafe mod yet. Once hers is running I will start on mine and it will be getting the full treatment.

Sorry but I don't have before pictures from before I tore her down but I will take "mid project" pics. I will also try to keep the thread udpated with new pictures as I go.

Got a replacement for this stator magnet. Most expensive part I have bought so far.

How you like your Meanie I want to get one.
I have a 82 KZ1100 Spectre and was wondering if you or anybody els know if the rim of an meanie would fit the Spectre shaft?

Meanies are driveshaft. I highly doubt it would be a direct swap. Would have to do some research to say definitively though.

Bout all I know about the meanie rear wheel is it will fit a 180 max without modification of the swingarm. As long as I remember correctly I was running 180 darkside.

The Spectre is a shaft drive also.

No argument from me. I've only ever seen pics of a Spectre and I soooo want one!

Quick question, does anyone know the speedometer ratio for the 1982 KZ1000? Maybe you don't know the 1982 for sure but if you could list the ratio for your bike and the year that would help alot.

Trying to find a good cafe racer aftermarket speedo. Found one I really like but need to confirm the ratio before I buy.

I do not have the Spectre, that was another user's post. The one I am working on right now is an '82 KZ1000 bored to 1105.
