'80 KZ1000
19 Oct 2013 19:31
This is my start to a new project KZ1000 which i inherited for nothing from my step father. 1980 KZ1000, I'm not sure which model (A,B,MKII,etc...) I'm not familiar with the different models and what they were. I added a picture of the motor numbers if someone knows how to find the bike model from that. Anyways, here's a couple pics of the mounts i made to fit the engine on a car engine stand plus the bike before it was stripped down to the frame. Oh yeah the bike has been sitting for 6-10 years but, fired up and ran great! 10,600 original miles too!!

From what I see, it looks like an LTD and in that year I believe the motor is same as MK 11.
I have a 1980 Kawasaki KZ750 Ltd. I bought new. I recently managed to get it out of my garage after 28 years and put it on the road again (2010). I feel like a kid all over again. Since I have acquired 3 78 KZ1000 Ltd, 1 1981 KZ1000 Ltd, and another 1980 KZ750 Ltd. Love the LTD's.

Thanks Mopguy & Racer54, that will help me look for a service manual. Anyone have any good spots to find an original one besides ebay? I'll end up getting a Clymer as well but, want the original too.

Puffin, the plan is to upgrade the suspension with newer sport bike stuff but, I want to keep the dual shock in the rear. I don't want to change it so drastically that it looks like an entirely different bike. I want to keep the KZ look as much as I can with adding some custom stuff as well. Engine is going to get APE's 1075 kit along with a good cleaning (lots of corrosion from sitting). My focus is to start with the engine getting that cleaned up and ready. Then I'll go to the frame and suspension.

much better  .
it looks like your engine number could fit in a b4 ltd.

the frame number will tell for sure what model tho.
nice bike you have there.

Thanks Leon! I'll look at the frame numbers when I get home from work to see. I'll post more pics of the tear down later too.
