I will more than likely just go the route of using correct used parts that I can find, and only use aftermarket parts where they're absolutely needed like you said. I do plan on riding it, so i don't see why making it brand new showroom condition would be smart. I'm aware from doing a CB750 restoration, that there are little things such as the bolts (having the "8" on the head of them) actually make a difference to someone who knows what the heck they're looking at.
I do have both side covers and both are in good condition. I don't believe they have the correct emblems on them though. The center stand is not on the bike either, that's another item i'll need.

Consider the following........
www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDetails.aspx?i...ange&item=PM82-36010
OR
www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDetails.aspx?i...llow&item=PM82-36020
PLUS
www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDetails.aspx?i...1+H2&item=EM43-61010
PLUS
www.z1enterprises.com/ItemDetails.aspx?i...System&item=PM86-260
Then add nice repro badges (about $160 for all) plus other items (i.e. air box, etc.) to return it to stock appearance, and for about $3000 you'll have a bike that will make heads snap around to see your bike and you can ride ride it without feeling like a tiny scratch will stop the world from turning. Would like to add, if you are not aware already, the 29 mm smooth bores are worth about $500 to $700 by themselves. I suppose you could sell them and get original 28's, just depends on your preferences. I would keep them myself. I doubt very much it would take anything away from the resale.

All those links are great, I didn't even realize you could still get some of that stuff, albeit reproduction it doesn't bother me. I will keep the original body work in case I sell and someone wants it to be painted. I actually have 2 sets of newly painted CB8750 body work that should sell for close to the amount of the Z1 stuff.
I noticed the 29mm smoothbores were worth quite a bit, i'll probably just leave them on there. If someone is hung up on having the original 28mm ones, I can cross that bridge and find a set at that point.
