I brought home a new bike .I got it from the second owner, dirty as heck, but in pretty good shape considering it was sitting in a cold garage since 92
Kawasaki produced these for the US market in 81-82 but the Canadian market were lucky to get them for a third year.
There is a little to bit to fix however. The previous owner broke a drive chain and took out the back part of the rear plastic fender
At the same time the seatlock assembly got chewed( i got a replacement so no prob there)
The exhaust is beat and im thinking a Kerker would finish it off.
So if anyone out there have a decent chrome(maybe black)Kerker 4 into 1, or a rear fender give me a shout
Barney

You, my friend, have a nice rare motorcycle! Although I do not have any of the parts you might want, I do have compliments. Keep the bike as stock as possible...J3 owners are tempted to turn it into the KZ1000R2 (ELR) model (a fairly simple cosmetic transformation) but the truth is, that the J3 is considerably rarer than the R2. Which paint scheme did you find (they came in at least two)?

No worries Micheal
Keeping it original except for the Kerker Header. It's been painted but I was prepping the side covers and tail cowl and found evidence of the black and parts of the multi colour stripe scheme.Personally this is my favourite and the way I will be painting it. Thanks for the encouraging words. Will update when it looks better
cheers. Paul

I bought an ELR-coloured Z1000J back in 1984. It had been in a front end crash so replaced the forks and took the opportunity to convert the rear end to Uni-trak using GPz750 bits. I added an ELR seat and rode it around til 89, when I bought my first turbo.

Nice bike, prone to cylinder ovalling and premature ring failure (which can be cured with a GPz1100 cylinder block and pistons).

Has anyone got a spare Kerker 4 into 1 they are willing to part with to help in my 83 J ressurection? Chrome system would be nice but I will consider black. A KZ900 Kerker system will work too. Thanks for the encouraging words guys. I wont be able to get pics till the snow melts, the garage is jammed and the bike is in peices at this point.

Hi Michael,

Hope all is well. As far as the bike on the service manual is concerned ('83 J3 Canadian), I have confirmed after a conversation I had with a chap that sold me my J3 some years ago who was a Kawi dealer in central Canada in the early eighties, that only 2-3 hundred J3 Canadians were imported in '83. Paul and I have been trading some emails on this. You and I had some conversations on this over a year ago. We met on the kz1000r website.

Hey Barny. I have a rear plastic fender from a 82-83 (or so) KZ750 LTD. I don't know if it is the same as the one on the J bike. If so, let me know. Lew.

I do recall...have shied away from KZ1000R.com as of late...ate up all my free time. Lately, have been concentrating my efforts on getting my KZ1000A1 shipshape in preparation to sell (which will then fund the remainder of my Z2A project).
