my first bobber project
20 Sep 2012 14:40
here's my first ever bobber project, wish i had took a before photo really. got it cheap as a non runner, it was pretty much covered in crud and hadn't run for 6 years. The po had kept the engine turned over though so no seized internals.
Carbs were fully gummed up inside and the mixture screws took over a week to free up.
only had sparks on 2 plugs so fitted a dyna s which cured it.
She now runs sweet as a nut, with the pods and home made exhaust with a shortened scorpion end can.
re-jetted carbs to primary main # 70 and secondary main # 140, then colour tuned it. sounds raw now.
rear fender was rotted at the front so cut it off and also cut the end off the front bit the rejoined to make a shortie. Have fitted some solid srtuts, made from 12mm x 40mm steel stock. Also just making a shortie front fender/fork brace from stainless plate.
just the seat to make now and a bit more tidying and she will be on the road.
Happy biking.

Nice green. How about a pic of the other side? Do you have any seat suspension at all? I am wondering how mine will ride as a newly converted hard tail. I will have springs under the solo seat.

Yeah will post more pics after the mot. Got no springs on the seat but it feels ok. Made it from 2.5 mm steel, beaten to shape and covered with an old leather coat. Have a rubber mounted front and hard rear fasteners with steel brace across. Seat has a little bit of flex but is comfortable enough. Made the exhaust system, used front down pipes, 2 inch stainless link pipe made in situ, and cut down scorpion end can, sounds nice, may do a you tube link. Also re shaped the handlebars so instead of coming back they sit at a nice 34 inches wide. Good luck with yours, need to find another project now this is done Lol.

Definitely do a youtube link plz. If you have the paint code for the green you used, I would sure like to incorporate that green into my air brush work. Looks good keep us posted and good luck to you.

Will put the code here at the weekend when back home. It's a standard colour cellulose, sort of close to ninja green.

Hi all those who asked, the paint code label has come off the tin, but is is a base colour cellulose for kawasaki ninja green. Standard colour in the book.Next time I go to the paint store I will get the code.
The bike sailed through the MOT with no problems and only 1 advisory for no chainguard fitted. I'm making a new one now from 3mm stainless plate and will post pics soon.
What to do now? have to start another project i guess.

which, IMO , is a ton better than the disc. Work great...and NO juice to worry with. wheel looks a ton cleaner
