Steve.. I'm everywhere...LOL How's the twin coming?

Its nearly fully trial built Jim, im waiting on 2 megaphone silencers to come & then i have to weld a couple of mounting tabs for them, make some sort of carb support. I THINK i have somewhere to mount the coil supplied in your kit but for future reference on the 750 there is pretty much nowhere under the tank or around cylinder head to mount it, i could have mounted it where the horn screws on but the weather in Ireland would brobably make short work of it.
After all that its off to the powder coaters!

I'm still debating on if i should fab some sort of 'splash guard' in front of the rear wheel, i really dont want to but im afraid on the wheel throwing debris & water around the back of the engine & filters. I dont generally ride in the wet so mileage will be limited so i may be worrying about nothing.

My son got his first taste of the dirty work today... He tore his first engine down, grease, grime and all...

It looks like someone has been inside this engine before, the cams look as if they have very few miles on them, no wear on the lobes and the buckets show no wear either, the cam gears show no wear and the cam chain tensioner has very little wear either. Someone even went as far as to do a very basic port job, they stopped just short of the valve guides. The crank journals look great too.. I'm going to plasti-gauge them and see what the tolerances are, I suspect they will be well with in tolerance.
The transmission doesn't show any wear on the tooth faces at all... the clutch plates are at max thickness too.
Over all the inside is WAY too clean for a 30 yo engine.

However the bad part is the guy was right, it has a holed piston..

It's not as bad as i expected which is good. I had expected the worst with some head/valve/cylinder wall damage.. but that's all good.. there isnt even a carbon ridge at the top of the cylinder wall, it almost looks as if someone put the wrong plug in that hole and it popped the hole in the piston.

Jim it's great to see your son getting grease under their fingernails. Are you still going with the 810 kit? I’m looking forward to seeing this project completed. looks great so far.

Clutch wear in these bikes is typically very, very minimal. It's actually pretty impressive what a stock clutch can tolerate.

Ya,
He was a good student and payed attention to what he was doing... After knowing someone has been inside the engine, I need to see what the bore measurements are and see if its stock or a slight over bore.. altho he still likes the 810 route.. if I can freshen up the cylinder walls and put it back together that $ that can go other places...

Little update..

I test fit the spacers over the weekend.. they are perfect.. I also got the rotors and calipers the other day so I put those on. I drew up the lower knuckle spacers for the end that attaches to the frame. Those will get sent to the machine shop this week to finish off the rear end, I also found the missing spacer for the rear wheel.
