I dont recall ever seeing that buell faring. What does it come off of? What does it look like on the bike.

More ideas for you. By the way I have allways liked the ELR faring (not a hater) but your bike is high tech and I think it dates it a little. More ideas for you...

I like Mark Wings on this board. This is his. Im not crazy about my buell headlights, but they will do for now.

That Buell fairing is off a Buell Thunderbolt. I have no idea how it looks as I dont own one.. Lol but I bet it would look good.. :)

I'm with ya on keeping it different. I think that is what it needs. Something different but goes with the flow of the bike.

I vote to go without a fairing, just a big as headlight 7-8 inches wide. Use earpluggs and the wind won't be bothersome, and you won't go death at some point :P

Like the way the build is progressing!

What ignition system are you going to use? What are you using for a crank position sensor? I plan to do a similar FI conversion in the future. I have most of the parts already.

I was recently trying to figure out what to do with my wiring, that m-Unit sealed the plan for me!

I am fairly close to you, we should meet up once we get our projects running. Mine should be running in the next month. My project is similar to yours but not as clean.

Jake,

I am using the BIP373 Ignition Module's for the ignition in combination with factory pickups and Dyna Coils. I have tested the Microsquirt pickup circuit with the stock pickups and I get a good square way, which should it all rights be able to drive the circuit just fine. You can see those pics and video about 5 pages back. Still theory, until I actually turn the key.

The M-Unit is great, and really cleans things up nicely. You are more then welcome to check it out and if I can be of any assistance on your project don't hesitate to ask. Would love to get together as well, although my bike is still a couple months out I think.

Going to Leesburg Bikefest?

I cant go to leesburg bikefest as my racecar goes on the dyno that morning and if the weather cooperates I will be at the dragstrip all evening.

I plan to use a Coil on plug arrangement on my FI system. But that is an ongoing project for another time. Right now I just want to ride it!

Just read through your whole build, man thats a nice bike!

I don't know if I missed it, but where did you purchase your microsquirt from and what harness length did you buy?

I might have to copy some things from your build haha

Damn.. Been over three weeks since my last update! What the hell have I been doing all this time, oo yea.. riding.. lol Just about finished up all the wiring and actually turned the bike over on its own power last weekend, so you know what that means!! :woohoo:

BMOCK50,

I purchased the MS from DIYAutotune.com with the stock length harness, which I believe was about 3'. I cut mine down during install to probably no more then 18" and shorter in some cases.

Feel free to copy anything you want, and if you have any questions ask away.

Maybe I didn't see it but I just read the whole thing and didn't see any mention of the upgraded lights/signals switch controls?

Damarble,

I am running 06 ZX10R controls up front. If your willing to some a little cutting and soldering you could get just about any controls to work, within reason of course.

Hey, fantastic build!!! I think the fairing idea is a great idea. I have a little problem with the fairing that you are using, it's from a 550 (or something, maybe a hacked-up version); the 750/1000/1100 (ELR) fairings are different, they longer from front to back, giving them a 'thicker' look ... which translates nicely when you look at it. I think that you would be very surprised at how much cooler a legit ELR-type fairing would look on your bike. Also, lowering the mounting point from where yours is would 'flow' the lines. Just sayin'.

Amazing work.

PS> I have a few ELR/GPz fairings in the garage, if you want I can take pics to show what I'm talkin' about.

Now that there is a lot of interest in going m-unit, I think it would be a good idea to post corrected wiring schematic, or at least let people know that it is not correct.

All buttons are short to ground, not 12v

See
english manual, wiring diagram at the end

I am currently waiting on my own directly from motogadget, cheated on the wires and bought their kit - looking very much forward to getting rid of the original wiring mess.

Mark,

For me its just a simple process of ordering longer cables as I am running zx10 TBs as well.

DJ,

You are 100% correct and a documentation error on my part. I have an updated wiring diagram and will see if I can get it posted this weekend. I updated it with the kill switch tied into the FI system to kill fuel.

You will love the M-Unit and it's simplicity. I doubt you will need any help, but if you have any question let me know and post up that wiring you are getting from moto.

Ok, its been a little while, but summertime, and kids out of school will do that to you.. lol

I updated the wiring layout and replaced the one early in the thread and will also post a link here as well to the new pic.

The bike is turning over on its own power, and I am down to working on my punch list to get this thing done!!! All electrical, all controls, all I/O are wired and done. (Still need to mount my lights in and indicators, but thats all finish work. I have ordered all the remaining fuel components needed and if everything goes right I hope to try and fire this bad boy up by next weekend. My kids are all going away to camp next week, so I will have lots of time to work on it.

Mounting all the fuel components is a challenge as you might expect. Once I get everything in I will snap some shots of how im laying it all out.

I ended up getting my hands on a chrome Kerker to take care of my routing issues. Would of liked to use my Bassni, but I would of had to cut it up, and I just couldn't bring myself to do it.. lol

It will be nice to get to validate everything I have done so far, and its so close I can smell it!!

Here is the update wiring..
