I know i have not got any progects done. But I have started on the 74 z1 Frame is stripped and rusting out in the rain that never stops. head is off the engine sitting under the gas tank in the yard. I have rebuilt a set of carbs for her and have just about every part needed to put it together.. this frame might be powder coated cause its just easyer.

You going to restore or mod it? Being a Z1, people may criticize you if you decide to mod it too much.

How do the Z1 restoration rivet counters feel about powder coated frames? It looks good and is obviously more durable, but still isn't "correct."

I hear ya! It totally makes sense for a rider. Lord knows I've displeased some rivet counters with my bike.

If the VIN tag is still legible on the frame steering neck, would strive to preserve it, even it it means painting instead of powder coating.
Am uncertain whether there might be some reliable method to preserve integrity of the VIN tag during the powder coating process, such as some sort of protective tape or shield.
Or whether there might be a source for or method to re-create a VIN tag.
Good Fortune!

I made up some good repro artwork as you can see in that link. I have the 72, 73 and 74 tags done and ready to rock. I need a 75 and 76 donor.
Good luck with the build Peter, post alot of pics! If you want a tag just PM me on Z1OC.

Engine was froze so a few years ago i filled the cylinders up with oil. should have put some kerosene in aswell cause it didnt help much. So out comes the 3lb hammer and a rod and beat on the down stroke pistons and there ya have it lose.

same same on my ole 73 ...bang bang bang..frozen and neglected..i think folks mis use the critic on mods being un cool....it is the i want a bobber from a nice kz any year or size that gets folk trippin....
that bike is super cool and gonna be cool as hell...the great thing about a drum rear and single disk front ,when set up good and good brakes...super light...super fun...super quick....super less bouncy...super...super...super.....marsha ,marsha, marsha
era mods rock...and for these old girls ,,,with a good pilot, will blow the doors of any squid with a mohawk helmet or put a giant smile on your face on a solo ride and draw comments.....
they look right and that is hard to reproduce when you start with the eraser and 80's-90's and beyond components imo
nice project....tits
