73 z1
04 May 2011 01:58 - 04 May 2011 02:01
This one will go really slow.
Haven't finished the last one yet. So I didn't even plan to start this one.
One day last week, took valve cover off to see what PO has done as he mentioned he messed up timing chain. Found out one of bolt head from cam chain idler were broken off. Tried to turn crank shaft, couldn't turn either way after little turn. Thought broken bolt head may be jamming chain. Took the head off.5 valves (all 4 intake and 1 exhaust) are bent. He probably messed timing up and started the engine. Of course cam chain guide (pieces of) were in the oil pan.
Will need new valves and guides, one size over pistons, all timing compornents, bored to one size up,,,,,. Pretty much same thing as the last one.
Again this gotta go really slow but add pics as it goes.

Ouch! Still, it is nice that you'll be saving the bike. Do the VIN numbers 'match' ?

Not sure about wheels but when I searched around, found out that rear break caliper appears to be from suzuki. So wheels very well could be from Suzuki too.
VIN numbers match. Though many parts were switched or chopped up and/or rigged, still found many originals on it. Wiring harness is cut up and 3 switches were added on the handle bar and the side. Engine number is a couple hundred after they were changed to 2 piece head gasket.
I don't think I will fix it up to the original shape but thinking to make a runner with some original touch.

Good luck with it, I'm sure it will have a better life than before.

Those wheels kinda look like my rear wheel and as near as I can tell it's off of an early 900 ninja.
