Here we go on my first project on my 96 KZ1000 Police. Plans are to clean her up and replace anything that needs it and put it all back together. Some things I know I need are a seat, air filter, brake pads, wiring harness, fork seals, and exhaust. The engine does run odometer say 24K but has been sitting for a few years so I don't know if I should go through the engine just to see what I have. First up I will be cleaning and painting the frame. It may be a couple weeks before it gets done as I am fixing to go on a trip. Any advice is welcome and I hope I can bring something to this forum as many of you have.

These engines are bomb proof. If it truly only has 12K miles, the only thing you might have to do is valve stem seals. Otherwise, if you're planning to run the engine stock just bolt it in and feed it some fuel :cheer:

I recently started a 93' KZ Police bike project. I have got it all de-police-ified, except de tabbing the frame, I want to make sure the "look" that I am going for is gonna work before I go much further. Its going to be a retro cafe' style.

Looks like you have a good start on yours.

Cool can't wait to see it. I want to paint mine black and loose the fairing but still have a windshield. I may have to keep the fairing until I can find a windshield and headlight assembly. Do you have yours in the project forum?

Do you plan on going back to stock with the bike? if i got something like that, i would make my own minimal wiring harness for everything required to run and of course, a headlight and tail light. Those KZ1000Ps are badass and will run forever so long as you do your routine oil changes and whatnot. Good luck man.

I will go back to original without all the police junk. I may just do the wiring my self.
