Well I got a new project before I could finish the original. I bought it as a parts bike for $200. It's fuel injected but the wiring harness is all cut up. I bought it as a parts donor for the 750 but the more I got to thinking I talked myself into just building it instead. I think I'm just going to change the jugs and put carbs on it. I stripped it down to the bare frame before I took any pics, ya I know, boooooo! I'll start taking them during the rebuild. Should be a fun build and bike.

Welcome John...I think you have a Z1 Classic and a number of folks have gone the 'carb' route on the bike...poke around this site for threads on how that was accomplished.

There are no side covers on the bike but the wheels are gold color. The first half of the vin# is kztoog. Does that give any idea if it's a Z1 or not? Sorry I'm new to the bike world.

Thanks nice to know! Would it be worth it to try and keep it injected or is it going to be hard and expensive to find everything needed. The wiring loom has been cut up the airbox is missing and who knows what else. I need to get a manual on it. Might just keep the jugs and go carbs. Thanks for the info guys.

John, you are looking for two manuals...the base manual and then the supplement manual for your model. Both are routinely available on eBay. The base manual is Kawasaki part number 99924-1006-05 and the Supplement is part number 99963-0035-01...expect to pay no more than US$40 for both. Accept no substitutes...skip the Clymer and Haynes aftermarket manuals.

As for parts, oddly enough the electronics appear infrequently (but they still appear) on eBay and most can still be had (remember that these are all used so you are buying a pig-in-a-poke). This model was notorious for FI issues.

Will do. Thanks for the info and the part #'s. Sounds like I'm gonna go with my original idea and just put some carbs on it. Thanks again guys!

FYI, Z1's were only 1972-1975, after that they became a KZ.;)

i converted a 1000g a few years ago to carbs i used a set of stock 1000 early model intakes and a set of 28 mm z1-r carbs and removed the injectors and plugged up the ports for them and replaced the petcock for a pingle single outlet and i also installed a dynas ignition
