I'm a big fan of painting your frame the first time through. Just see Joe's thread for all the evidence you need. PC conceals cracks, is difficult to remove, and has to be totally re-done if you need to make changes. Paint can be spotted and touched up, as you well know. Your bike will be one of the rare examples that needs some color on the frame.

I had pretty much decided to paint my frame, but I thought since there was a powdercoaters next to the office, I might as well check in and ask......yup, I'm money ahead painting, no question. Sure, it's not as durable as PC, but I have control over prep and the ability and material to touch up/repair at will. That, and it'll be much cheaper ;) I can't deny the cost savings is appealing either :woohoo: I initially wanted to just do black, but your right, It's just too much black, I need a little more contrasting color in there.

I know Mark, but I also don't want it to end up looking like some guy that paints his white bike with a blue frame, and it just doesn't work. Black is safe, but I suppose I passed safe a loooooong time ago

I had a blue frame. Didn't look bad, but I'm back at black now.

I wasn't knocking blue frames Tyler, the bike I'm thinking about was a lighter blue with a white seat and bodywork. It didn't work for me taste, and I wanted to stay away from that. B)

OK guys, I picked up a Z1 crank and rotor off of ebay.

Whats the concensus on tranny bearing replacement? Is there a reliable way to check my bearings for wear, or should I just replace them since they have 80K+ miles on them? If everything is ok with my tranny and my crank shows up in decent condition, then it'll be time to do a final cleaning of my cases (gotta make sure there is no media blasting residue left anywhere) and assemble the bottom end. I spent some time today smoothing a few welds, and going over a few more with the tig torch. My argon tank is down to about 100 psi, so a refill is due. I'm pretty sure I have a small leak in my regulator, as I seem to loose argon if I don't shut off the tank valve  I'm happy that I have a welder that works, and I'm glad the company works to correct any issues I have, but damn! I'm getting a little tired of getting things fixed/replaced. Onward.....I need to finish the rear motor mount gussets that I had to modify, and I want to make some reinforcing panels for the top and bottom shock mounts....you know, some lateral shear strength never hurt anyone :P After that, I'll disassemble the roller, strip the frame and paint it. One thing at a time though, finish the frame welding B)

adam ever since i had to replace a broken output shaft bearing,i think i would replace at least the output shaft bearing and as many of the others as i could afford.the bearing on the back of the basket is a double roller and probably last forever in a street bike.the other two are not stressed as much so probably don't wear to bad.i guess you can go with dollars or luck which one do you feel best about :P .

I only replaced my secondary shaft bearings on the 650, but she had under 30,000km, nowhere near your kind of mileage.

I'll replace the damn bearings guys. Hopefully the outboard bearing support will take some stress off the output shaft bearing. The bottom line is I can't risk jeopardizing my lower assembly for $140 in bearings when my bearings are already pushing retirement age.
