Slow day at work?

That is a funny picture. If you look closely, you can see that they have the deraileur with all of the gears attached. That would be a serious workout! I wonder if those little bike hydraulic master cylinders push enough fluid to actually use those brakes. Or is that a whole motorcycle front brake system?

Don't make me get all bicycle purist, and bitch about how they f'ed up a completely good bike. Turn-in is soo much slower, too low to the ground, toes overlap the front wheel when turning, blah, blah, blah. Ernesto Colnago will roast these people over hot coals!

Slow, and yours. It takes time to screw-up a timeless classic. Seriously, though. Z1-E, and APE have delivered most of my engine parts this week. I have chain and sprockets on the way from Bike Bandit and American Classix. Hopefully, my used exhaust will be here soon. Thanks Tony! That will give me a starting point for what I want to do with the exhaust, since I never had one. Been doing a little experimenting with the sandblaster on things like oil pans and kickstart covers. Working on cleaning motor parts for the coming engine build. And trying to plan electrical and ignition. Mostly being lazy and enjoying the run of good weather. It will be hot very soon.

I was also wondering. If my stock coils are shot, then am I better off just buying the Dyna 2000. The kit from Z1E includes coils at $400 vs Dyna S $125 + 2x$125 for coils. Lots of extra features for not much more money. What does the thundering herd think?

I like my Dyna-S. Easy to set up, you don't have to mount a box anywheres, works great. I'd say save yourself the little bit of money, unless you want to fiddle with advance and stuff.

Yeah, I'm feeling the effects of sleep deprivation more now, so I don't have the energy to screw around in the garage much. My poor abortion of a motorcycle :(
On the ignition, I picked up dyna greens off eBay for $65 and got a new dyna S from Z1e. I was pinching pennies at the time, but if I had my option, I would have went with the dynamic 2000. Just replacing the mechanical advance with an electronic unit would has sold me, not to mention being able to change the timing curve easily. My $.02

Here are some pics of the stuff that I did get cleaned up this week. It's a shame that you never get to see that oil pan.

I finally did the tire mount and balance tutorial. Here are the links:

I think I can imagine how bad it looked. I couldn't have been worse than my dirty, oily and oxidized excuse for aluminum castings. But yours cleaned up very nice indeed. Geez Josh, are you thinking about assembling your engine in the near future? That KZ will look too much like a complete machine once you get an assembled engine in the chassis :cheer: Bastard......

I was tired when I posted that last night and I forgot to include the before pic of the oil pan.

I'm ready to assemble the engine, but I won't do it until I'm 100% done with fabrication. It's much easier to take the bare cases in and out. Just trying to stay at least a step ahead, so that I don't have to wait around on parts too often.

100% on the Dyna 2000.
Just tooooo many benefits for a little more cash.
the 2000 allows the use of the grey 2.2 ohm coils as well, meaning more zap. this old hemi head is not the best design and the added zap can really help, especially if u up the compression. .NO more spring loaded advance mechanism to fail, built in rev limiter then there is the better ignition curve, and if u get creative, u can design your own curves .
But the s is ok. :P .

Oooh Mark! Don't go telling us that the Hemi head is no good. Now all the Dodge truck owners are gonna be PISSED!

Now as for that picture, I would title it "Man with a welder and too much free time."

As for the Dyna, I was a little wrong on the pricing. The Dyna S is about $125 and the coils are $125 a pair, not each. That said, I still like the idea of the 2000. Ask me how many times I have hit the rev limiter on the wifes Miata.
