No slide hammer yet, but I was thinking of getting one. I'll need it for the old Mustang when the time comes. I could just weld a threaded stud in there and pull it out a bit.

You can get pretty cheap slide hammers from Harbor Freight. Slide hammers are one of those things that don't need to be high dollar tools. Weld a threaded stud in the center of the dent, attatch slide hammer and hammer away. You might also consider a stud gun, but the slide hammer is cheaper and you already have the mig ;)

I was totally thinking of the Harbor Freight one. Any more money than that and I would probably just make it myself. I

I'm the same way with the CF thread. I can't really contribute anything useful, so I only post occasionally.

Adam, Tyler's Teutonic captors only allow him to lurk. Periodically, he will sneak in a post.

Ooooooooh, I see. Tyler is one of the L.O.S. readers. For shame, though I can understand when you have nothing to contribute, why open your mouth. We can't all be like trianglelaguna all the time

I wonder if one of the paintless dent repair shops can smooth that dent out from inside the tank? Ed

I'm not sure. It does have a bit of a crease at the bottom of the dent, so I'd bet that the metal is stretched a bit. I'm going to repaint everything anyway, so it doesn't kill me to grind out the paint.

I would try a stud gun. I bought one about 3 years ago from harbor freight. works pretty slick. think it was about 100 dollars.

Back in the day (and not on fuel tanks), we would just punch holes in a panel, screw in the slide hammer and pull out the dent. Then weld up the holes with a mig and apply body filler. The boss didn't believe in a tool that used proprietary consumables like studs. A stud gun would be cool, and if you have alot of dents to pull out in your Mustang, it would be cleaner and faster. But for one dent in your tank, I stand by my initial recommendation........

Buy a carbon tank

Ok, I stopped off at Harbor Freight today and picked up a cheap slide hammer. Only $18. I also got two sets of swingarm spools for $5 a set. Yes, swingarm spools at Harbor Freight. They actually sell a fairly nice aluminum rear stand for $40 but were out of stock today. The last time I went to the Kawi dealer, they wanted $50 a set for spools.

Once I get the tank bung finished, I'll work on that dent. As for the Mustang, I have one specific dent in mind. The PO hit something on the right front corner. It crunched the headlight bucket and bent that fender in a little. After seeing what my Father in Law has gone through trying to get a new fender to fit on his 66, I'll just fix mine.

I took a little video of the bike running. Give me a few minutes and I'll post that.
