OK mark I have 3 questions. 1)How well do your passenger pegs work? They seem close to the rearsets. 2)Do you have any clearance issue with the shift rod and the kickstand in the up position? 3)Where did you get your clutch springs? Ape? I found a broken one.

I never noticed that you have DIY rearsets. That says something. I don't miss much. Nice work.

A little late here but great thread!! Lots of good info. Keep up the good work.

porchev914, what does "hot boxing the cockpit" mean?

Thanks Tony. I hope you approve since I guess you have a vested interest now.

They are too close together, but they work. i have never been a passenger, and rarely have 1.But it is nice to have them for those occasions, for sure. i suppose its still a lot more comfy back there than your zx10? I still need to figure out how to attach a hand rail. and a quick release back rest, like your luggage rack. 1 problem i have is that i dont weld, and therefore it becomes, more cost prohibitive. so it is always further down on my wish list..

The shift linkage is tight. I had to grind I touch off the kick stand mount. I have since seen that a lot of guys mount them in the opposite direction. I just did what I thought made sense at the time. Unfortunately I didn’t have kz riders help back then. Lol.
I think I got the springs from ape. If u order from z1e, they may be able to get them for u as well. Z1e rocks.B)

I'm getting ready to place a big order with z1e, and that would be ideal if I could do some one stop shopping.

As far as riding on the back of the 10. I wouldn't do it, and my wife won't either. She's had the M on her license for longer than me, and she's welcome to ride it whenever she wants. My son likes riding back there, but hes a little guy.

The only time that a man should be on the back of a modern sportbike is after a breakdown.

I have sat back there in the garage, on the kickstand. Way too high, and my knees would want out in about 10 minutes.

Nicely done Mark. There's nothing like something you fabbed yourself. And there is always something you'd want to do different after the fact. Hindsight is 20-20! Damn your bike looks better up close than is does in your avatar!

Thanks for the kind words.
My forte, is actually wood working. Cabinetry , has been a long time hobby. So i can really attest to the statement that "nothing is better than something u fabbed yourself".
You are so right on the hind sight. That is 1 great thing about this sight. it gives us an opportunity to relive our projects, and share our hind site with others. So that others, projects, get easier , and better .
How cool is that.B)

I have tried to work wood, and I have a hard time with it, so I can sympathize the difficulty going from a medium you know to one you don't. Thats why your rearsets are so impressive. Oh, and sitting on the back of a modern sportbike reminds me of a crows nest on a sailing ship. Perched up there in the wind :P Its one of the reasons for the KZ, the queen didn't like being perched up there (uncomfortable she says) and loves the flatter layout of the old UJM.

So Josh, how are those rearsets comming? OH! I may come close to meeting your challenge, I found a front end off a 06 GSXR1000 for a song on CL. I'm gonna go look at it Wed. :woohoo:

Sorry, no progress to report. Had to work on the family car a little, and then I took the day off. I usually do on Mon.
