Tony is the MAN! He wouldn't even let me pay 100% of the shipping. What an awesome gift. The best part is that my rearset is totally clear of the pipe. I was really worried about that. I have soo many ideas about the final exhaust, and having this pipe sets me free. My only experience with KZ exhaust is with that '82 CSR. Many moons have passed since that bike left me, and it had the typical CSR 4 into 2 chrome pipes.

I believe Tony said it was the old MAC pipe from his Mark II. That baffle is totally devoid of any packing material. I bet it would be loud if I don't re-pack it.

I'm not 100 percent sure what kind of pipe it is. I always thought it was a mac. It sounds good the way it is.

You know Josh, you were giving me a hard time for not posting any progress pics, and here you are slacking off yourself. I know its Monday, and this is you usual slacker day, but we (I) need to see some progress pics. I understand that you are getting to a point where it's hard to take pics of progress, but do try :P

Tony, I'm definantly gonna try it as is, but I still need to get the endcap off and re-attach the baffle or remove it. It appears to have broken off and is loose in there. I plan on experimenting with no packing to various levels of packing to achieve the desired sound. Loud is not necessarily a bad thing. That pipe is really in pretty good shape other than the finish. It looks like a keeper.

Your right. Ohh the hypocracy! I entertained family all weekend for Easter and this week I have got two Cub Scout functions with my son. I promise to be better.

On a positive note. I did recieve my 1/2" offset front sprocket from American Classix yesterday. It fits nice and everything seems to line up well. However it doesn't have the hole for the keeper washer, so much like otakar, I'll have to work through that. I plan on trying to actually drill the hole, so that I can pass that info on for future use. I also bought a small sandblast cabinet after reading about the ills of silica dust, I wasn't keen to expose myself too much while using an open sandblaster in the yard.

Also, I think that I may have located the original owner of my bike. I hope that I will be able to extract a little history out of this guy. It will be cool to find out about how the skull got on the back fender etc. We'll see...

Sorry boss, I'm stuck at work. It was late last night when I got home with the thing. All I could do was assemble it, throw in the sand, and try it out on one part. I have to get in bed early during the week. The alarm clock rings at 4:30 am. I promise some before and after pics. I might need some less aggressive media for the aluminium parts. I bought the black sand stuff last night. It stripped off 32 years of rust and paint instantly from that little steel bracket.

That black silicon dioxide is a very aggressive industrial abrasive. Thats the crap that's spec'd out when we need concrete etched down for coating, cold joints, ect... Like you said, you may want to try something less aggressive for any aluminum parts, like glass beads. BTW, I'm jest bustin' yur chops on the pics :P

I use recycled glass, works well. I still wear a mask obviously, but its not all that dangerous. It doesn't leave a shiny surface like beads, but its great if you're painting afterwards.

Recycled glass as in "oops, I broke a window, might as well break it up better and run it through the blaster" or do you get it from another source TDub?

Haha they sell bags of 60 grit recycled glass at Princess Auto. Kind of like Harbour Freight for Canadians. Only costs $10 a 50lb bag, its good stuff.

So instead of glass balls, it's just glass chunks then? I could see how that would provide a duller finish, but be more aggressive than the beads.

Yeah, just ground up glass. It's aggressive, but not too bad. It strips off paint easily and leaves a great finish for painting. I use it because its 1/5 the cost of the better abrasives and it does nearly as good of a job.

PS - Sorry for starting this tangent Josh.

Since you boys have spent your evening talking about glass balls and unusually large nuts, I got in a little work and a Cub Scout meeting. First a picture of the new toy.

And the inside.

Now for some before and after shots.

Finally a question. Does anyone have any advice on removing the last specks of chrome still attached to the cam cover? The super-agressive black sand removed most of what was left, but the stuff that is still attached is really stuck. I see some glass beads, or balls or shards in my future. Can I just kill a couple of six packs of Fat Tire and break those bottles with a hammer? Just Kidding!

The Fat Tire bottles would be perfect! The darker glass adds molybdenum which would lubricate that last little bit of chrome. It should fly right off! I recommend the Nuclear Precision line of Fat Tire bottles, gradation and weight are, as always, to the nearest nanometer. I believe the only place to aquire those bottles are my fridge ;)
