Wish I had your patience and talent. Great find and a great resto. Your pictures show what looks like an LTD grab bar on the bike when purchased. Would you be willing to sell the bar? If so I'll leave contact info.
Thanks, Old Kaw Boy

I just picked up a free kz1000 and it's likewise battered but I got it running after some effort. Before I go much further I was REALLY happy to see your series of photos showing what I'd like to do with this one -- how much ballpark did you invest? I was happy to find someone who's done it to get at least an idea, if you want you can pm me to keep it private, my problem is I'm not moving forward because until I read your post I couldn't find anyone who's done it recently -- and I'm afraid of what $$ I'm up against! May just sell it instead if it's too much. THANKS.I finally finished the poor old thing up. 14 months ago I picked up a 73 Z1 for nothing. It was eather take it home or watch it go to the scrap yard. Through the course of it's life it has been brutleized, cannibalized, well used and abused. In general just plain thrashed. After all that it was shoved into the barn and forgot about for fifteen years. The engine was not froze up but during it's resurrection I discoverd a ring fragment and a cam chain buffer in the oil pan. After I tore it down I discoverd thoes atrocities had been fixed. They had left the trash in the oil pan. All the gears and bearings were in good shape. The top end was another story. I fixed that with a top end rebuild. All my pictures and progress can be seen by clicking on the link s292.photobucket.com/albums/mm10/hx35w/
If I can get mine looking that good it will be a minor
miracle!

Well KZ, you ask about how much for the restoration. Thats a subject that makes me cringe. I haven't added up all the recepts, but a quick guess would be around 4K. Bottom line is it's a expensive labor of love.
Yep, I'm estimating that when all is done with my Z2A, the cost will be north of US$5000...and none of that are labor costs as I'm doing it...
