1982 GPZ 750 project

well this is my second kawasaki, i bought a GPZ750 very cheap, the top end had been taken apart, im currently working on getting the motor back together, it has a wiseco 810 kit in it. the more i look at this bike it needs attention everywhere, are there a lot of these bikes out there? id feel bad parting this thing out, or ill just take my time and make it nice again, i guess im just asking are these bikes worth it, i know its the last year before they went to a more flowing fairing body work.

I guess im just looking for some reinforcement in fixing this baby, im a little young to know what these bikes were in their prime, but i love my KZ750E3 that i have now.

Also one last question, did these only come in red and green?

The only GPZ 750's I've seen are in firecracker red paint here in the U.S. Possibly in Europe there were green ones.

thanks, im just trying to find out more info on these bikes, im not a huge fan of the fire cracker red, but wanted to keep it like something Kawasaki might have made...

I can't tell you the last time I saw one being ridden on he street. IMO, it's definitely keeper. You're young. Put it together and hang onto it. It will only become more rare as the years roll on.

For a practical yet sporty street bike, they were in ways much better all around than the 83 model. They're nice too. Just not very comfortable for long rides. Yours is.

yea i ride my kz750 all over, but after 2 hours i do have to stop and take a break, i do get a lot of complements for haveing the old bike on the road, wasnt sure on what people would think of it, most of the old bikes around here are honda cafe racers

I seem to recall that Kawasaki constructed about 10,000 to 12,500 (world-wide) Z(KZ)750R1's but I don't recall where I read that. My R1 is about 7500 in the series. I also suspect that not many have survived...which is why I have held onto mine with every intention towards a restoration. The flip side of the bike is, despite it being a single-year model and few being left, they really haven't appreciated in value...I keep mine 'cause I think it is a cool-looking scooter. As for color, the bike came in red only (with silver over dark blue stripes)...if there is green on yours, then it is a repaint.

yea there not worth too much, the bike has been repainted without the stripes, so with it not worth so much money and needing a paint job im kind of fighting with myself to restore it or to make it my own.... i saw a kz1000R in white with blue and red stripes that i like a lot, but whos to know if this bike will ever be worth anything, who knew that the camaro, mustang, and cudas would be worth soo much as they are now

If you want a good all around bike this is a good unit to work with. Some parts are becoming rare and riding stockers even rarer.... Most have been crushed or modified. I don't feel bad changing mine up as it's lucky to be on the road with a salvage title.

They are not worth a thing even after totally cleaned up. Don't expect a return on the dollar. But the satisfaction of rebuilding and knowing the bike top to bottom is a huge reward.

I have some stock parts in stash that I will never use so if something comes up with the controls or such let us know...

Red is a bit loud IMO as well... Go figure.

The 1000R is already worth a bundle, no matter what color it is BTW the white 1000R is a factory color released in Europe....very collectible.

yea im not looking to make money on this, i bought it for $400 with a good title, just wanted to get some direction on where to go with it i guess... kinda wanted to know how many are out there.

It wasn't the one on craigslist was it?
