That's what I'm talkin' about! You guys are fantastic.
I am buying forks this week.!
This is all very important stuff. This bike will be capable of being a daily rider, Especially if gas is $4.00 again:ohmy:
I plan to ride a little on the weekend with my girlfriend, maybe 100 miles.
I am about 225 lbs and she is 5 foot and size 2.
I am not looking to take down a turbo Hayabusa or win a bike show. I do plan to modify and improve this bike correctly and in the end I do not want to compromise.
My fork tubes are pitted and I have lost a lot of oil.
The rear shocks are off of a,,,, truck?
I basically have a hard tail with failing front suspension.
Thought about calling Z1 or Redline and ordering tubes.
I have decided instead that I really like new technology.
I like stopping also. This bike is actually a 1980 MkII with a 78 body. I like this body.
If this were a Z1 or 900 I would restore it.

B) Anyway It's looking more and more like zx9 forks and wheels, zrx shocks, an offset sprocket, and custom rear sprocket and a swingarm from Klasmos for mounting a zx9 rear wheel on a KZ.B) this is not written in stone.
Ground clearance for leaning into turns is a big concern for me, I drag the toe of my boots as it is.

OMR: I´m in no way dissin your ideas:blush: It was just an observation. I found Kerker headers a few years back and I had to sell them after checking clearance. There was only 10cm / 4" groundclearance under engine. That way way too little, you´ll lose 1-2" just sitting on the bike. The other thing is leaning on right side. Pipe before muffler comes out pretty far. My headers easily scrath and they do that on the right side headerpipe before #1 collector. And those pipes are under engine inside frame tubes. See pic

Naw guys, didn't take it that way at all, not pissy or anything for I do appreciate you bringing this up... ;)

For my riding style, don't really plan getting overly crazy
on leaning to the sides as much as possible i.e. Knee dragging.... Past those years any longer...

Just want a strong running bike that has been built with some extra zip and to feel the wind in my face again! B)

And to hear that phenomenal Kerker sound again and this time on my bike, Good enough for me... ;)

Once I get all the tuning and break accomplished, I'll be playing around with different shock adjustments & settings. Should be able to raise it another inch or two...

Otherwise, let the bitch spark... Going to be one hell of an expensive night show! :woohoo:

We´re not trying to jack this thread. Swapping to a newer front+rim means automatically much lower stance.

1. Front rim from 19" to 17" means slightly over 2" lower bike (fork lenght+tire profile).
2. Fork length is usually shorter in newer bikes. What I´ve heard ZX9 should be one of the longest.

This means that bike usually drop well over 2" and that is a lot. Check your ground clearance now and remember that when riding suspension is 1-2" lower that sitting on side stand. Then think of a nice curve, leaning right and there´s a bumb on the road..........

Ground clearance is just one thing to bare in mind, that´s all.

Just because you put your dollar in and didn't get your mars bar doesn't mean that kicking the machine will make it more likely that it'll pop out.

Oh and the plans are looking good B) . I was planning on using shorter tubes on my Z1 for handling but would have had clearance issues with stock exhaust so decided not to run with it. 2" less clearance makes it look like that mystery exhaust might be hitting the ground at inopportune moments

Once you get the new forks on the bike and find out it lowers the bike too much for your taste, you can always get longer fork tubes from Franks.

I have a set of GSXR forks that will eventually find their way onto a Z, I'll probably end up getting longer tubes though due to clearance issues. Another potential solution is stepped triple trees.

I think the thread I started is in the Chassis section somewhere, lets see if I can find it.

Now you guy's are talking about ground clearence issues, i think i might have a few when my ride is said and done in the spring sometime. It is a 74 z1 900, with a ltd 1000 disk swingarm, ltd 1000 wheels 19 in the front, and 16 in the back, plus im running a vance and hines sportsman sidewinder with the stock rake, i already know it will be a really tight fit up front.........lol. Im planning on taking it to the track a few times, in doing that i will run the 12 inch solid rear struts and a wheelie bar, so it wont corner for crappola, but will not run it like that on the street. Here is the pic of the sidewinder, it will probally drag on some of the curbs as is.....lol

in the living room where any self respecting motorcycle part belongs,im proud of ya!:laugh: strap down the front end before yo put that header on and see where your front wheel sits in relation to it,you dont want your wheel locked between your header tubes while having to lock up the brakes in an emergency!:S this is one of kawasakimans buddies bikes but it should give you an idea why they rake the frontends to run those pipes.ive still got your battery box in back of wifes van she forgot to ship it :blush: maybe saturday when shes off .

Still recovering,some days are better than others.
