How difficult was it to put that 636 front end on? That didn't just bolt on, did it? Looking like a good start to your project. Keep us posted!

Direct bolt on? No. Pretty damn close? Yeah, lol.
Have some new stuff:
Got a new tank thanks to Steve. Old one was rusted thru. It's the LTD tank instead of the standard, and it looks like it *might* clear the front end without having to move it back. Plus it has the stock paint scheme on it still, and that put some visions in our heads as to what we would like to do. The all white theme is a good idea, but we're going to break it up a bit on the tank and rear sections.
Front end work is done. New bearings are on hand, and the stem fabrication is complete. Figure out what we're gonna do for a light is the last thing on it.
Got the rear swing arm in. Going to have to machine a sleeve for the stock swingarm bolt to fit in. Thanks to OMR, we have a fix in mind. Have to fire up the lathe, but should be an easy project. On the other side of that though, we've found that our rear axle and our rear wheel don't get along with each other. A bearing swap is in progress on that one.
Also made more progress on the motor. Have a complete set of carbs again, albeit not the Mikuni's we'd like to run. They'll do for now though. Clean up/paint/polishing is about 65% on the motor its self. Still have to get the rest of the frame work done before that's really an issue, as we'll have it in and out again to figure out which spacer we need for the front sprocket.
Ordering rear sets, clip ons and our head light assy later this week, and that should really be all that we need to put it all together, minus the seat, lol. That can be figured out damn near last though, so not too worried about that one.
And here's a couple shitty pics I snagged real quick in a hurry out the door last week. And yes, I realize the forks are backwards, lol.

Looking right on Cree! One issue I had with my old 33mm Mikuni smoothbores and the standard tank was petcock clearance.... it was ages ago but what a pain in the but it turned out to be (for such a small problem). I think I ran a Pingle fuel valve and I was ok (I think I still have the same fuel valve however I'm running RS flatslides 36mm now and I will have them on soon.... I shd be ok. I think if you move the tank rearward it is better but I remember running into frame clearance issues going too far back. I just thought I'd mention it, keep the pics coming, Doug

Cree,
I'm having trouble finding the right spacers for my rear wheel to fit my 636 swingarm. Seams like every spacer I get is wrong. I finally got the right caliper mount, but found out it was not as wide as I hoped and now the spacers I have do not fit:angry: Could you take a pic or tell me what you used in spacers. I am going to need bearings too. Any was is it posible for you to take a pic for me of the rear caliper from the rear showing the spacers and allso on the right.
I cant procede to the next section of my project with out adressing the rear fitment issue.
Thank you

I'd love to, except we are at the exact same juncture, lol. Not sure which wheel/swinger/axle combo you're running, but I can tell you that the bearing problem is going to be a fairly easy one for use to address. The spacer will be too I believe.
We're going to end up shimming the caliper bracket(s) to slide the wheel to the left around 1/2 inch. We're stuck having to make custom spacers as our wheel and axle weren't ever meant to go together. I'll keep you guys updated more regularly now though, and when we figure this one out I'll hit you up Snake.

Because this caliper braket is not the right one. This bracket is about 10mm too wide. The actuall bracket that goes on this swingarm has a spacer that goes between the braket and wheel.
I did order yet another spacer from ebay. When I get it in the mail I'll take some pics of it and the actuall caliper braket for the wheel.

is the caliper bracket 10mm wider than the right one plus the spacer or total? can you just have the material milled off the bracket to move the wheel over and make wider spacer for other side ?

Still recovering, some days are better than others.

I was reading my last post and it didnt make sense so I went down to the workshop and snaped a couple of pics.
This picture is of the three brakets have.
The one on the right is the correct one for the caliper and rotor, and swing arm.
Notice the size were they slide on to the axle.
The one on the left is wrong and am trying to sell it.
Also the one in the center is for sale.

This is the correct one (white arrow). The others are not for this ride.

The other two are to locate the caliper in a different location on rotor.
