KZP's first ride!
Chattanooga to the Natchez Trace and back. Almost 1400 miles and no problems!

Leaving in the rain is no fun! Much less so 50 degree and raining!


Four hours in the cold rain was enough. Bike did great, but the rider gave in. Quit early, checked in, started drying off. I'm on the right, brother in law and enduro racer extraordinaire Mark on the left.

Sorry to dig up an old thread but I don't know how I missed this one. Great job on the engine, looks amazing, better than new.

Great job on the bike too, looks beautiful.

Excellent write-up.

I know your feelings/experience with laying a bike over the engine, and lifting it up, but not on a bike that big. Kudos to you, and hopig you many miles of safe riding.

Didn't the police bikes have red/blue colored front lights? I'm not knowing on this subject.

Thanks all for the kind words. This was my first resto, but not necessarily my last.

@ Corey: Concerning the lights, they're typically removed (along with the siren, radio, etc) by the police dept before being auctioned. It's my understanding that the blue and/or red lights are illegal for use by civilians. Clear or amber is typically used as a replacement. I picked up my clear spotlights at Lowes. Something M/C specific would probably work better, but these aren't bad, and they were cheap (~$10 IIRC).

IMHO, a semi-recent low-mile KZP (say...>1990 or <40k) bought straight off auction/ebay is one of the best M/C values you'll find.

You can still buy the cups and chrome retaining rigs from Kawasaki , if ya just gots have the original stuff ,, Light bulbs can be got from NAPA ,,6010 ?? Not sure all this stuff is expensive so if ya can find something to fit that looks ok go with that ,,
