Thank you Rob, Mario, Jr and Pat considering the level of KZ expertise around here approval from this crowd actually means something.

In answer to your question Mario the bike already had the rotors drilled when I got it, must have been done by the PO all I did was take them off and sand off all the "patina" that had developed over 30 years. I have a feeling that this bike is going to be an ongoing project, I still have the urge to rip it all apart and have the frame powdercoated in a silver-gray color. I saw a Z-1 that was done like that and it was stunning kinda one of those things you can't get out of your mind, maybe next winter if I get bored/ambitious.

Pat, as to what Mrs Gringo will be riding I'm not too sure about that. I don't think she has ever even driven a car so turning her loose on a bike might not be such a good idea:S . I do have that 305 CSR in the basement that I'm going to teach my 13 year old stepson to ride we will have to see if the warden has any interest in learning to ride. I just fired that bike up this morning down the basement and ran it for a few minutes. I'm sure that will be another no no once she arrives.:woohoo:

so since your friend was trying his hand at flames when you first posted this tank, i got to ask, is he taking in any work?
because i want him to do the tank, sidecovers and rear piece of my 650 for me.

your right, the more i look at it, the can is kinda cool!

btw, you should never start a bike in the basement unless you have either a outside exit or a hose to vent it.
(don't ask me how i know this, very long story and i still walk with a limp)

still you did better then the 650 i got for $75

someday i will be able to afford my kz habit.

Steve I'm not the same guy that originally posted the pics of this paint job. I saw the paintjob here and since the guy was close by I got in touch with him to see it. In talking with him he told me about the guy selling my 650 C. I had to go by this guy's bike shop to pick up some parts I ordered anyhow and so I asked him about it. As luck would have it he had just bought some bikes from an auction and needed the space, hence my super score.

A few days later this guy calls me up and says he found a Ducati with a salvage title that he wants to go racing with and asks me if I wanted to buy his 79 650 B with this paint job so another Kaw was added to the herd:pinch: . I'm a little pist at this guy because he still hasn't produced the title for the 79 and when he put it back together after changing the valve seals he mis-timed the cams and bent the valves. I'm still trying to decide if it is worth putting that one back together or just part it out.:S

Oh and don't worry there is an outside door leading to the basement, it hardly stunk up the house at all:woohoo:  .

Very nice job of bringing the bike back to life! Two questions: did you use any type of clear coat on the front fork lowers after you polished them (if so, what brand), and do the Vulcan shocks rub on the chain guard? Regards, Ed (KZ650C1)

Thank you Ed and Neil. The Vulcan shocks fit great no issues with the stock chain guard at all. I haven't put anything on the fork lowers at all just polished them up I'm sure I'll have to keep up with them but the hardest part is done.

Nice Score and looks good too!

Interesting mix of parts. The more I see of the way some adapt and fit parts from various models/years, the UJM is alive and well! ;)

Thanks Nate and Sandy. I thought I'd throw this picture up for Ed to better show the shock fitment.
