What if you took the side stand off and heated up the mounting bracket and twisted it so that when the stand was up it would be more 'under' the bike?
Looking forward to your next mods!

Yeah I thought of that, but I am not sure if that would "soften" it up too much? I am not sure what I am going to do yet. I can easily fab one out of some round bar I have laying around. I will see.

Perhaps clocking the part on the shifter shaft may help you in another way..what i mean by this is rotating that part over a couple notches which in turn will move the lever upwards a bit.
Just to give you an idea of what i mean
your shift lever on the engine end of the linkage is currently like this \ now if you were to rotate it so its more like | the linkage would rotate the pedal upwards slightly moving it upright and giving you clearance for the kick stand.

That is true, but I like the position it is at now. I made the length of the rod specific to that position. It is comfortable there when I am sitting on the bike. If I moved it up farther, I woudld have to lift my toe to a awkward position.
Thanks for the ideas though guys, I appreciate them.

do you have the side covers? or are you leaving it open?

I originally was going to put covers back on. So I left the tabs when i painted it. But then i decided not to. I am thinking of wrapping a diamond mesh pattern around the frame tubes. I have some of it laying around. I would like to leave it transparent, but not completely open. I like being able to see all the inner workings of the bike.

I think I fixed my kick stand problem. I figured I might as well try to bend the original instead of going through all the work of making a new one. It worked out really well. I still have to fit the rear sets back on to make sure its right. But I think it should be plenty of room now. Looks kinda cool too!
Here are some pics. I couldnt resist some action shots of the torch!

I could, but I think this solved it. I will check in the morning when I put the rear sets back on.
Oh and they look awesome. I really love that metalcast smoke color. Gives the bike a whole new look. I cant wait to see the new wheels on it.

Well got her on the road. I have some carb issues that I am working through, but other then that everything is pretty tight. I really need to modify the seat though. With the sport bike style riding position, I really need my ass farther back in the seat. I am 6'2" and its a little uncomfortable. If I could move the hump for the passenger seat back about 4-6" it would be perfect. I am thinking of getting rid of the passenger section all together. I still want to find another alternative for the tail section. I put the stock fender back on just to get it legal. I have a tail section off my 79 750 that could work nicely. I will have to see. I was going to hold off on the seat mod, but it will be too uncomfortable on long rides.
Anyway here are a few quick pics i snapped with my phone. I love the camera on my new phone 2MP, not too bad.
Still needs a good amount of cleaning, and some touch up paint. I also need to paint the lower forks, get the new mag wheels on, and fab up some side covers.
