KX1000 done right :)

IIRC, that's a 1428 putting out ~140 hp. :)
(notice the Wiseco big block).

If you slapped a paddle tire in this behemoth it'd probably be a decent hill climber.

But this one looks like it's transformation and design was much better thought out and performed.

You'd have figured someone would have thought to fab up a front sprocket cover of sorts for it though, just in case all that HP decides to send it sailing off the output shaft! :pinch:

There's probably no real world application to racing it, but it sure is an attention getter! B)

Lots of riding area, especially for off-road. The Imperial Dunes are less than 20 miles from town and we're not short of desert either. About 80 miles west, is the Ocotillo Wells off-road vehicle park. North of that is the Anza Borrego area. All are great riding. Just google any of those three and you'll find tons of info.

Arkaix agreed that the pipes belong on the right side and gave the "go-ahead" to start cutting.

Here's a quick mock-up. Now, I just need to get the other pipe connected to the left cylinder.

thats pretty cool. I think I would prefer one pipe on each side though. or, have you thought about an undertail exhaust system?

That's going to look really sweet when it's done!

I'm sure you've probably already thought about and will be addressing it, but what about the heat from the pipes being that close to the cylinder, engine cover and the right side carb?

77KZ650 ~ I just wasn't wild about one pipe on each side and running the pipes under the tail is a bit more involved than I want to get.

R4 ~ Since I am now in the process of messing up perfectly good chrome by cutting the pipes I plan to kill two birds with one stone. Actually, I was just going to paint the front half of each pipe with high-temp (BBQ) black but Arkaix came up with the idea of wrapping the front half of the pipes. That should take care of some of the heat and cover up the missing chrome.

Arkaix (Joe) and I talked about plans for this project this afternoon. I am now searching for a KLR or KDX donor bike to snag the front and rear suspension, brakes and wheels from. A KLR swingarm will add about 1 1/2 inches to the length and KLR forks are about 4 inches longer, not including going up to a 21 inch wheel in the front and from a 16 to an 18 inch rear wheel.

Now, if I can just get the OK for a lathe, or even better, a combo lathe & milling machine I can get started on some of the other parts we thought up.:P
