Hello to all,

Nice forum info you all have here! I always appreciated the KZ's and what they did for the moto world! I have been restoring muscle bikes for about 10 years now and truly enjoy bringing something back from the grave in a serious way. I've mostly dealt with Honda Super Magnas and V65's, but found the Z1's to be quite the real deal for their age.. Anyway, I just aquired a one owner 1973 Z1 900 in original shape with 35,000 miles on it. It does have, what I believe is a MAC exhaust system on it? It has a busted up tach, missing right side cover, a small dent in the tank and fender and faded orange and root beer paint as well. However, it does run pretty damn strong with no major mechanical issues considering it's age and looks. I did also received with the purchase....the factory - parts, service and owners manuals, along with the original tool kit. My question is - Can anyone be nice enough to tell me what something of this nature may sell for on the market? I'm really wanting to customize this bike or restore it back to OE as close as possible, but don't know if it's the right move?

Thanks in advance!
Clay

Thanks for the reply! I will reserve your word wisely. And yes, it is very much like the bike in the forum header. So whats the trick to posting pics on this forum? It keeps telling me to downsize! Do you have to upgrade for a fee? I'm used to Delphi and they seem more user friendly IMO.

Thanks,
Clay

Have a look at 60's-70's sports car prices. They have gone crazy. Rusty Fiat 124 2000's sellubg fr $5K and nice ones for $15K. $30K sunbeam alpines!!!

Welcome Blade! There are many issues that will affect the potential value of your 1973 Z1. For example, there are two categories of 1973's; those that are early production 1972 bikes (frame numbers less than 2200 or so) and all the rest. For collectors, these early frame numbers are the most desireable and the most valuable. Recent sales (depending on condition) range from $1800 to $17,000. :)

Holy Cow! Up to $17,000 !!! I knew they were special, but nothing of that measurement. Granted that has got to be a first production run bike and absulutely mint condition. I purchased mine for $450, so I guess I didn't get ripped. Thanks everyone for the info. Keep em coming.... I appreciate it!

For God's sake, Post a Picture!
'73 Z1 Owners are a pretty exclusive bunch. Not many of those bikes left, especially in good enough shape for a restoration.
What's the frame number? Its on the steering stem, right-hand side, below the handle bars.
Edit:
Oops, I just saw that you posted a pic.

VIN # is Z1F14625. Obviously not one of the first ones built. I'l post more pics of the Z when I get a chance. Here is a pic of my 1987 Super Magna I picked up at a salvage yard for $300 3 years ago.

Very nicely restored Super Magna. Sure doesn't look like a salvaged bike!
Hey, the frame numbers on the '73 Z1s started at Z1F-00001, and went to Z1F-19999. Ma Kaw made 4895 bikes in 1972, and 28,408 in 1973. In '73, Kaw made Z1's and Z1-A's. I don't know the difference.
