HI! Got a free KZ today

Today off of Craigslist I got a 1980 KZ 440 for FREE. It has only 3255 miles and needs a seat and a battery. When I jumped it off my car it started right away...a very good sign!

Thanks...I'm stoked...no dents in the tank, no scratches in the covers (though they are pretty cheap looking) no rust on the chrome

The saddle is an obvious concern, the battery and the mount for the hbar is scary squishy...

Great stuff :D Did the bike come with title?

What model KZ440 is it? Mine is a 1980 KZ440 but from what I can tell the side covers and gas tank look to be a different shape, that and of course you have spoked wheels for the win

course theres no title! :) I have a receipt from a salvage yard that went out of business. In WA you have to register a vehicle 8 YEARS before they will issue a title. I have paperwork showing no liens or claims on the bike though. People sold the bike to the salvage yard because they thought the motor was seized...turns out just the rear wheel was..the guy I got it from fixed the rear wheel problem but is moving away and didn't want to take it.

Mine is like yours but I believe mine is the low-end B series--spoked wheels (which I prefer), I don't get the fancy dual-leveled seat (which I prefer) and mine is chain driven which.....well 2 out of three aint bad!

I saw your post about the filter...mine actually has a little pod in there...that's not stock?

Hmm...

Spoked wheels are nice, im happy with mine for now though :) Mine is chain driven also, all in all im sure they are both very similar.

Pods are aftermarket, your airbox should maybe look something like this if it is a B1:
