Greetings from Scotland
13 Sep 2025 09:21
Hi all, thanks for the add.
Picked up this 1984 GPZ750 A2 recently (not my first, had a couple of others in my time) which is in prettty good shape for a 41 year old UK bike.
Got 42k miles and been well looked after, came with loads of receips and spares including the origial exhaust which I'm going to put back on.
So far I've checked the compression (all good), balanced the carbs, installed a Hagon shock and replaced/cleaned the swing arm and linkage bearing, and installed an APE
CCT which definitely helped quieten down the rattle.
Looking to improve the riding position as it's a bit streched and low for me so have ordered a pair of the taller handlebars from a 750 Turbo as they look like they should go straight on
but of course it wont be that simple, it never is.
Cheers for now...
Al.

Another welcome from Canada. Many of my ancestors (McKenzie) came from Scotland.
I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar.

Hiya, hope you ordered the USA spec bars with the one bolt fixing & not the Euro ones with the two bolt fixing as its the USA ones that are not as low

Re: Greetings from Scotland
14 Sep 2025 10:20Thanks all. Tbh I had no idea there were different ones it was a bit of a shot in the dark based on an assumtipn that the 750 and turbo will be similar enough. However they've arrived and they are the single bolt ones and position wise will be a big improvement, just depends how easily they go on.Hiya, hope you ordered the USA spec bars with the one bolt fixing & not the Euro ones with the two bolt fixing as its the USA ones that are not as low
Cheers,
Al.

Re: Greetings from Scotland
Yesterday 12:30 - Yesterday 12:31
Well, the left was certainly no issue. Right has a couple.
1. The throttle cable comes straight out the housing into the hanlbar mount, and I already cracked it trying to bend it a bit. I think this wont be too hard to sort, I'll just drill another locating hole in the bar so I can spin the switchgear around just enough so it misses.
2. The brake master cyclinder fouls the fork top cap, I can see the US spec models have a flush one that takes a big hex key, the UK ones have this bolt that sits proud:
I've been searching for a set of the US ones online but so far no joy. CSML list it as 'add to watch list' which isn't encouraging. Found one set on ebay in the US for 40 quid plust another 44 for post, which I would pay if they weren't so rusty and beat up, will keep looking.

Re: Greetings from Scotland
Today 02:25
have a look around on the turbo forum, the USA spec M/C has the sight glass to the front & the euro spec are to the back, there are other M/C that fit (I believe off the gpz550 range)? but you will have to do research to be sure, good luck
