Just got this today. was created by Kollector
Just drove this '83 KZ750 Spectre home today with just over 5000 miles on it. Original buyer died 5 years after buying it and his wife covered it in the garage for 30 years. The shop owner I bought it from put a ton of work into it and planned on using it to "pick up lunches for the guys" and use it as his personal bike but then changed his mind. New tires, battery, tank reline, brake caliper rebuild, master cylinder rebuild, front fork seals, carbs out and ultrasonic-ed, plugs and wires, other tune-up items. Lucky to see it on Craigslist half hour after posting and ran out to buy it that day. Even the AM/FM cassette stereo works. Like the factory color coordinated Vetter fairing, not usually a fan of those but looks good on this one. Also like the gold/black color scheme instead of chrome all over the place. Has black header pipes, mufflers and engine guard too. Also like the push button over the ignition key that gives an instant ammeter reading on the tach, never saw that anywhere before.

Nice score. Even though that Vetter weighs as much as a small Toyota, it will spoil you if you ride any serious highway miles.

Thanks guys for the welcomes.
Was a bit leery about the "Spectre" look at first.
The seller told me it was originally marketed as the cool bike for older black guys, how's that for a stereotype?
Should I be playing a cassette of the soundtrack of Shaft when cruising the city streets at night?
Have a pic of it as my screensaver.
The more I look at it the more I like it, though, so will definitely leave it fully dressed as is.

Another fine example of tasteful over the top bling. Definitely need to preserve it as is.

The Spectre was the high end model: shaft drive, air shocks, and various enhancements made to the engine such as the bath tub combustion chamber and different pistons, etc. Very nice. Be sure to check the valve clearances before putting too many miles on the bike.

That's the plan, just ordered a shop manual off of fleabay. Seller said compression tested okay but that and a leakdown test will be done also.

So spring is just around the corner and I have been trying to pick the lock on the right side fairing glove box all winter. Bike came without that key. Came close to drilling it out a couple times but stopped myself. Today a small victory, went out there again to try to pick the lock and had a couple pointy instruments in my hand when it dawned on me to try every bike key I owned instead. Went thru over a dozen keys and the next to last key was the ignition key off my Honda GL500 project bike. Score ! Now to go make a spare that doesn't say Honda on it.

Very cool bike and good restraint on the lock. They were love 'em or hate 'em bikes. I loved them. Serious power cruisers. Paint and gold powder coat was over the top but as has been said, that was a sign of the times. Very dialed into pop culture of the day. I rarely scrape footpegs, and I've never measured my chicken strips so the softer suspension and shaft drive were nothing but a plus for me. My best buddy from school bought the 1100 Spectre and really didn't like it. He wrecked it and bought a ZX10 that was ported, polished, and and and. He was much happier. His description was doing 90mph plus at night on a big sweeper and the suspension wallowed. Possible with a shaft drive being pushed to the limits. I think it far more likely the fact that he was stupid, i.e. drunk as a desert rat after breaking up with his fiancé had a whole lot more to do with it.
I suspect it will provide you nothing but joy. PS - Strongly suggest you get a Kawasaki Service Manual versus something else.

PPS - I would take a hard look at the date code on those tires. I believe I heard you say "new tires" but take a peek.
