Hey everyone!
Just picked up a 1976 KZ400S2 last week. Although this isn't my first bike, I've had a few street bikes, this is my first of this style so I'm ready to have a good time with it. The guy I got it from picked it up from the original owner! I've still got the original title and manual with it, SUPER COOL. However the guy I got it from did an awful job at modifying it. Cheap paint all around and a few other mishaps. Anyways i picked it up for $600 and first on my list of things to do is get it running. After that it'll be a tear down and clean/paint then reassemble. I just recently took the airbox out to fit new air duct boots, and got new plug caps and plugs.

Awesome! That will be a great project. I'd definitely recommend stripping that paint off the engine before repainting, for cooling purposes.
I look forward to seeing progress pics!

McDroid I will do my best! Its going to be a challenge for sure but I hope I can learn a lot along the way and come out with a great looking and functioning bike.

KZFrankenstein I plan on doing so. I actually have a blaster that uses walnut shells at my disposal so thats probably what I'm going to use. Also have an oven sized powder-coater that a family friend is going to let me use, so I should be set!

Welcome aboard! That is the perfect bike to do mods to since no really clean original parts will be sacrificed. I bet that bike gave a HUGE sigh of relief to be rescued from its former owner! Before you start working on it you may want to take a look at the link below. It contains info that will be helpful. Ed

Hmmm, the old dunk-the-motor-in-a-bathtub-of-paint trick. I've seen that before. He probably did no prep, so all of the paint will come off easy.

Yes, please save that bike! :)

Will do Kwaker2000! I fiddled with it a little more tonight. Put in the new plug caps and spark plugs and installed the new air duct boots. Still not starting. Took off the tank and then the petcock - Petcock was filled with sludge, so thats the next culprit. Ill get both all cleaned up and replace the fuel lines, add a fuel filter, and move onto the carbs. Hoping I can get it running without having to mess with the engine.
