New Member from Staffordshire - England says Hello
12 Sep 2014 13:45 - 12 Sep 2014 13:52
Hi People
Mark from England here.
I have just picked up a tidy Z1-R D1 model for my winter 2014 project.
Guys have told me that there are some other Z1R owners on here so can you please give me some advice as I work things through on her.
I have just had the Tony Sculpher Z1R book and I am reading up about the model in there.
It seems like she is a fairly stock condition Italian spec bike and I have tried to attach a picture for you.
Thanks in advance for all the dumb questions to follow.

Plan is to set her back up with adjustments and servicing
Re-finish a few parts and try and find a few missing ones.
Will stay largely stock condition. PO has given me the factory brake hoses - they will be re-finished and returned.

Hi There
Think the tyre brand is Michelin Macadam without going out to check.
The clearance from front tyre to painted front fender seems closer than on my Z1 & Z650 bikes.
Is that a feature of the Z1R ??

Second permanent bike 1989 FJ1200 dyno'd 140RWH, great bike.
Third ride is now the Frankenstein 1981 GPZ1100B1, 1983 fully recon motor fitted LOVE THIS BIKE
Forth my work bike FJ1200 1989 (same type as FJ above)

Hi Mark,
That bike looks great! You may want to check the front axle clamps. It could be just a shadow line, but it looks like they may have a gap at the front rather than the gap being only at the rear of the clamp. Ed

Thanks Ed - good tip as usual.
I have only just got her and she is being used real gentle until I have had a chance to adjust carbs and cables etc.
Will keep you posted on progress.
Aiming to get her as nice as the Z650 I did on your kz650.info site.

If they are macadam check the date code. I think those have been out of production for years. Seems to be the consensus that 8 yrs is about the max on motorcycle tires, regardless of the mileage on them.

Mark,
I thought folks might be interested in seeing the very high quality of your work - so here's a sampling.
