Yes, $1300 became the magic number. And, for now, $1800 would be nice. But, its not for sale.

I will definitely keep you guys update with things. I can't wait to do a little tuning and get it up and running for the year ahead.

I know that I definitely need a new seat. Where would be the best place to find one similar to those pictures? Or, even one that had more of a single seater look to it?

If the seat pan is original, or at least fits properly, I'd suggest taking it to an auto reupholstery shop with a pic or two of what you want the seat to look like.

Most shops can do this in a about a day, a week or more if they're very busy = busy means they're either the only shop around within miles, or do very good work.
Depending on the shop, it should run you somewhere around $100 including new foam and vinyl.

OR you could always play the waiting game and see if a decent one pops up on eBay that's within your price range, then just pray your bid doesn't get sniped in the last few secs.

Somebody earlier had mentioned a tool to help replace valve seals. What is it, and where can I find it?

Jason...there are a number of special tools (those not found in a general tool box) you need to pull and replace your head (and all those other things that you should do since you have the head off).

1. torque wrench (inch/lbs)
2. torque wrench (ft/lbs)
3. feeler gauge (in fine increments)
4. valve shim tool www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=1557
5. valve spring compressor www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=2160

Since the head is off, inspect cam chain, rubber bits associated with cam chain adjusters, cam chain tower wear, etc. Since you should pull valves to replace valve stem seals, may as well lap the valves to freshen up the head (not hard to do at all)...and I cannot stress enough, if you don't already have a Kawasaki Heavy Industries shop manual (part number 99924-1006-0X), get one.

Thanks for all the info. where can I find that book? also, I noticed that the valve spring tool is quite different than mine for my cars, do I need it or will the one I have work? This should be interesting, but I can't say that I am too scared, should I be?

Nice score! Since my 79 A2 was stolen about 10 years ago I have not seen another a2 or MKII anywhere around here.
