I am the recent owner of a '78 Kaw KZ1000 Ltd.

I am happy to to be part of the site. This winter I will be rebuilding the bike. Looking forward to asking alot of questions during this process

Welcome to KZR! Looks like some of the LTD bits are missing. Are you planning on returning it to stock, or custom?

I dont know too much about the LTD model to know whats missing. Could you possibly tell me? But I am def going for a custom look

i had one just like yours with clubman upside down bars...(left nice dimples in the tank,almost looked factory :lol: )cept i had a header.....how does it run...if it runs good and you have good tires and service it...those ltd ,that year,they go forever.....good bikes....

I recently purchased it ans yes it has dimples in the tank also lol......bike runs excellent. I am in the process of putting a kerker exhasut on it now to give it some sound cuz the stock exhaust was just too quiet

The stepped seat, handlebars, and grab rail to name a few. Also, I can't tell from the picture, but it doesn't look to have the leading axle forks that would be on an LTD. Are you positive that it's an LTD from the VIN or are you basing that off the badges on the side covers? My bike is a standard KZ1000 but came to me with LTD bodywork from another bike. A lot of stuff gets swapped out over the years. Just thinking that yours may be a similar situation. Or the flip side to that is that your bike is actually an LTD and someone put the standard forks, and seat. Then added the clubmans, painted the LTD pipes black and removed the grab rail. Who knows? I like a good mystery.

someone correct me if i am wrong but i did not think the ltd's got the leading axle forks until 81.

@testarossa- The bike is originally an LTD model but I believe the previous owner did some mods on it.
