Hello. 1981 KZ750 LTD here
15 Feb 2006 18:59
Hi folks,
Had a hard time getting a good picture of my bike, sorry.
This is my first bike. I am 35 years old with a wife and 3 kids. Don't worry, I have taken the MSF course, which was very helpful.
I needed a second car, but that wouldn't have made a very good mid-life crisis.
I have been riding for about 5 months and have put over 3000 miles on her.
I paid $2500 for this 1981 750 LTD that had only 6200 miles. I have fallen completely in love and, despite it being winter, have ridden her at least a little everyday except for 3 days. She is my daily commute and then I go on nice long rides on the weekends. I admit it, the winter here in west Texas is quite mild, but still.
I have been lurking around this site for some time and thought it time to introduce myself. I have even gained from answers to a really stupid question that I asked in one of the forums. I was very impressed with the speed and accuracy of the answers I received. I was even more impressed with the warm and friendly tone of those responses even though I did ask a really dumb question.
More dumb questions to come, I look forward to the day that I can be able to contribute with my own expertise gained from within these forums.
Thanks for this site. It sure is a nice community.
regards,
Jon

Here is another attempt at a photo. The first photo was pretty fuzzy. This bike is so speedy that it is hard to get it to sit still for a picture. That is why I had to sneak up on it in the dark.

Welcome.
Your lucky to be able to ride year round. My bike's been sitting in hybernation for a few months already. No problem sneaking up on her.
Have fun and ride safely.

Hey JohnQ,
Check your messages, if you want to check out the sissy bar that I took off my bike, I will need an Email address to send some pics. It would mount in place of your grab bar. Even trade? Let me know....

Re: it gets a little cold here

Yep,
I froze my hooha off this morning coming into work at 6 am. I always check the temp before I leave and it said it was 34 on the news. That is about the lower end of what I am willing to ride in. I forgot to look at the wind chill factor that brought it down to 18 or so. There is not a thing in this desert to stop that wind is there? Next time I will check the wind chill and wake my wife up to drive me.
cheers,
JQ

this is a nice looking bike. My friend has one about like it only with the performace exhaust and stage 1 jet kit. I have the 83 750 LTD. Whatever the year is, I think that the 750 is great. My friend got me riding and I have been loving it ever since.

Re: New to the site

First, Happy New Year to everyone. Jon, I've enjoyed reading about your experience with your "new" KZ. I ride a Suzuki Boulevard, but just bought a 1981 KZ750 as a project/second bike. I'm having a blast pulling my hair out with wiring issues on the bike. It looks like several of the previous owners have gone in and modified wiring to try and get the bike to do what it is supposed to do. That should be an all-winter project with lots of stupid questions from me on this site. At least I was able to get a good schematic!
Ahhh, San Angelo! I'm an ASU grad and hope to retire in that area one of these days. I'm stuck in Ohio right now, so I've learned what winter is since I left Angelo.
I look forward to future discussions and any info I can gain/share as I tear into my bike.
