Back in the saddle after accident
08 Oct 2007 12:22
Hello Everyone!
Back in the saddle again! Haven't riden since I T-boned a Nissan Van who ran a stop sign back in 96!(that bike was a 81' Suzuki single). My first ever bike was a brand new green 76'KZ650B back in 77'. Me and a friend were both riding our new bikes, him on a Honda 750 four waiting at a stop light after going out for some chinese. It was dusk and I heard the sound of tires screaching and getting louder!, turned around and saw the lights comming straight for me! next thing I know I was lyng on my back looking straight up at someone asking me if I was ok!, didn't even rip my pants-they say I flew and bounced onto the pavement. Ironically, I had just purchased a used Bell Star helmet that morning! The first words out of my mouth were "MY BIKE!": it was a total-bent the frame...with only 99 miles on the bike!! the guy who hit-and-ran me was also wanted in Texas!
This brings me to now, bought two 79' KZ650's and a new helmet. I was shaking so bad when I rode this bike for the first time, I didn't know if it was me or the bike!!, but it all came back quickly...back in the saddle again...

Welcome.
It was a strange feeling when I began riding again after 10 years of caging it. I aslo was in an accident near the end of my last riding stint, but it was not what stopped me from ridng. Getting married and having kids had a bit to do with it.
Now after riding some years again, and on my KZ650 to boot, I lovin it all over again.
Toss up some pictures of your rides too.

Thanks for the support! you can watch American Chopper for only so long before you just have to get back on!
Question; The 650 I got says per the Vin# that it is a 79'C, but it has spokes and dual front disc and rear drums...what gives... did they make that version or did someone replace the Mags?
Pictures comming in a few weeks, bike is in the shop in Oregon.

Thanks, I wont ride at night or in wet weather (on purpose) to reduce the chances of an accident. Besides, I will be 50 this next year and wish to live long enough to enjoy my retirement!
Wow, only 2 months for you! be safe...

my accident was 4 years ago, and i really had no trouble getting back on the bike. i was layed up for a few weeks, but as soon as i could i got back on. when i am riding, what i remember from the crash is always creeping back into my head. maybe it keeps me more alert and on the lookout.
good luck, welcome back, and be safe
