Engine Cleaning/Polish question? was created by K.D. HART
This bike sat outside for many years. I've scrubbed and pressure washed off the black mold and then I cleaned it again and again and again and sprayed it down with WD-40.

How can I better clean the motor and then maybe polish it some, without removing it?

To clean my engine I use aluminum polish, mothers, turtle, tr-3 or spitz. It all works great. Trouble with water spots, have I BECAUSE of the rain. To get in between the cooling didlies make sure. Yes, hmmm.

It wipes the excess from the tin or rinse it with the hose again. you don't want to hit a puddle and flush the polish on your tires.

Your engine is actually in good shape and should shine up nicely.

Take a look at the Nuvite site below. Nuvite offers several grades of metal (aluminum) polish from coarse to very fine so you can get a quick cut on corroded metal and then move to a finer grade.

www.nuvitechemical.com/c-39-metal-polish-nushine-ii-system.aspx

For finishing up I like S-100 paste and X-treem wadding. They can be found online or at some bike shops.

This looks like what I want to try.
I sent Nuvrite a pic of my motor to help me pick the product that will best serve my needs.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Yea, that engine isn't bad at all. I would hit it with soda then some aluminum mag wheel cleaner. Replacing those old rusted case screws make a huge difference.

I just spent 6 days cleaning the engine for my red Z1B. Had black paint though.

Started like this:

Here it is now, still need to replace the cam and points covers:

and here's my other Z1B right after soda blasting:

Thats a nice start, that Z1. Nice and original!
You should put the time in to it. Take off the covers and machine buff them.
Install some new screws. Minimal investment, new gaskets and screws.
But a lot of time and sweat equity.
Good luck

Tell me more about this soda blasting. I don't think anyone in my area does it? Or did you use a homemade setup like this? www.aircooledtech.com/tools-on-the-cheap/soda_blaster/

I did clean up the chrome on my rims today. I used nothing but Water and aluminum foil.
It worked pretty well.
