My opinion on painting motorcycles...

If you're planning on garaging it, rolling it out once in a while for a once a round the neigbourhood or a show and shine, go nuts, put in as much effort and money that you like for paint, but if you use that bike regularly, leave it parked now and then I wouldn't spend too much time or money on paint, It's going to get rubbed, chipped, scratched etc. Sound a bit negative?, Well ya, but after 14 bikes there's one rule I've learned, they are monotrack vehicles and at some time they will inevitibly end up on there side. A simple sickening clunk off the stand, or a grinding slide. But again to each his own, I'm just thinking out loud. My bike still has original paint, looks great in pics, good from a distance, but up close, it does show that it is an '83 but I'm still happy with it. When it comes time to repaint, just going to get it sprayed and probably apply new stock transfers.
Honest, I'm only 3/4 of the way through this Guiness!, just seem to be on a bit of a rant tonight.

You've solved my decision behind rattle canning my KZ750E2 red, or having a shop paint it for $200, rattlecan it is!

I like the Duplicolor Engine Enamel with Ceramic, used it on a few parts on my bike and did a mountain bike frame with it.

Amen, Fossil.

I'd just primer mine black and fill in the flaws with a Sharpie if it wasn't for the Colorado high desert sun.

Good points, Fossil.
I don't ride every day, maybe twice a week, and I keep the bike garaged at home.
I'm a nut for restored vehicles - not just bikes, and I never get tired of seeing something that's been brought back to 'like new'. Guess it just takes me back.

I'm looking for another bike ('77 KZ1000), and that'll be my project bike, with rattlecan paint. I'm thinking of a camouflage pattern with tan, black, and green primer.

Excellent advice, couldn't have said it better. Now if repaints were all done like ltdriders 900LTD, that would be a different story as it looks great. I'll have to say it's really one of only 2 or 3 repaints I've seen on KZrider that looked right. To me all the rest would have looked far better leaving them alone even with dents and fading.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Do what you want but this paint jod is over 20 years old and still looks great. If it's preped right it will stick as good as a factory paint job.

This a stock paint job I did for my bike too.
