The tank on my KZ1000 police bike only holds about 3.5 gals seriously limiting distance between fill-ups. Does anyone know of a larger tank that can directly swap with this tank or one with a minimum of conversion.

Does this tank fit? Is there much modification necessary?

picnisco:

I don't how deep your pockets are but you may want to consider an oversize Z1R tank. To the best of my knowledge, they weren't available in North America but were available in Europe as an option, so you'd have to watch the European eBay sites. The trouble you might run into with any oversize tank is that your stock seat may no longer fit.

Z1R tank aint gonna work. The KZ1000P which you have is based on the KZ1000J. Frames are different. Try one for a 1981-82 KZ1100B.(if you can lay your hand on somebody's spare to try.)

Picinisco, where are you located? I have an 1100 with the tank off for a few weeks. If you are nearby, you are welcome to swing by and try it on for size.

Sunny Arizona I'm afraid. Need the bigger tank to travel to Minnesota.

Just compare how the rear of the tank mounts. As a GPz1100 tank mounts on a my R (therefore a J) with no issues. If it's got the tongue that plugs into the rubber grommet at the seat area you should be cool. I double checked the mounting system with my 81 GPz1100 which is right next to me. Also, seat nose and fuel gauge sender issues may surface, just swap senders. (round and oval)

The existing tank has a tab at the back as shown in the pic. Underneath at the front there are 2 "C" shaped pieces that mount on the rubber pieces on the frame. The dimensions that I would need would be the didtance between the 2 "C" shaped pieces and the distance from the "C" shaped pieces to the tab. Ideally from the center of the "C"
