Tall rider ideas? was created by don_belt440
Hey all I'm new to this forum and I have managed to almost waste an entire work day reading other posts...which are great by the way. I recently bought a 82 KZ440-D (Belt Drive) and I love it except for the fact that it is too small for me. I'm about 6'3" and am looking for ideas of how to be more comfortable while riding. My knees just about hit the handlebars so I rolled them foreword but now my arms feel like they're sitting too high. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

By the pic in your avatar it looks like you should be able to shave some of the passenger part of the seat off the front and make the driver seat longer so you can sit further back. I don't know how often you do, or plan to, carry a passneger but it's a suggestion.

I'm 6'1" and look big on my 650. I think we just need a bigger bike, KZ1000,1100??

you picked about the worst bike for a taller rider. i come in at 6'7" so i know what it is like. i just avoid LTD's, i just do not fit, i look real funny on a 440LTD. without doing too much work, i would say some highway pegs mounted as far forward as you can go, and some superbike style handlebars so the buckhorns do not have you bunched up so bad. i would think that would be the best you can do with your 440 without getting a larger bike

Doug,

I looked at your avatar pic and the style of seat that you have on your bike is what I need! Can you send me more information on the seat.

On some bikes I have had the seat re-upholstered and had additional foam added to make the seat taller. Gives me more leg room that way (I'm 6' 3", used to be 6' 4" before I got older) :)

Its a Corbin Gunfighter made for the Z1/Kz900/1000s. AS far as I know those are the only KZ applications that Corbin makes seats for.

I'm also quite tall, and lanky I might add. I'm 6'5" and roughly 180-190lbs. My everyday ride is a Ducati M750 with clip-ons and a tailchop. Makes it about the same size as the newer Buells but not as tall. I look like a monkey humping a football as one of my coworkers puts it.

But don't you just envy the shorter guys, they don't have to look for a car that fit's, they never have to worry about low doorways or low ceiling fans, and they fit on the LTD/CSR models :)

But they have a hard time reaching stuff on the top shelf and changing a light bulb in a ceiling light while standing on the floor :)

It is cool to go to auctions and be able to see over the heads of most people. :D

Maybe, but I bet you can't fold into an engine bay, with the engine in it!

Gives new meaning to the term "grease monkey"!
