This is my rattle can paintwork so far. Needs clear coating next.

Should I do this ASAP or wait a few weeks for it to harden/dry etc.

Also any suggestions for the side panels. Tempted to leave plain black with plain black badges.

Very Nice Work!!
Personally, I'd leave it non glossy. Flat, satin, whatever you want to call it. Regardless, Nice Job!

I LOVE it!!!
I wonder if you should even clear coat it? Won't that make the flat black glossy? I absolutely love the way it looks right now!
I wonder if there is some way to paint the side cover emblems orange? I think that would be sweet.

I have been toying with the idea of infilling the lettering on the badges....I have new repro ones that are unpainted at the mo.

Is there such a thing as matt clear coat???

Nicely done. B)

First off, you haven't said how long the paint's been on. Paint - especially rattle can - will shrink somewhat as it dries, and it's common for that to take a week or two to achieve about %98 of its final set.

So if you can, I'd give it a little time to breath. ;)

I'd think that the sidecovers deserve a little pizazz as well - perhaps an orange inlay pattern around the badge that traces the curve of the sidecover.

As for the clearing itself, there are satin clears - PJ1 makes it - or go gloss. If you go gloss, the black will retain its flat characteristic while the clear will reflect light at off-angles - an interesting and attractive mix of mediums.

Good luck - and happy clearing... ;)

Finished the orange paintwork today.

So I'll keep it in a clean dry place for a couple of weeks and then clearcoat.

I'll have a play around with the side panels and see what I can come up with.

A very nice job indeed! I may have to change my opinion of rattle-can work. As was noted above clear coats are available in lower gloss. Good idea to add some extra protection. Can't wait to see it all together. Did you do the template for KAWASAKI yourself or purchase it?

The "KAWASAKI" is Vinyl lettering. Luckily its almost the right shade of orange. Got a load of different sizes off ebay for about 12 of your American Dollars.

DOes PJ1 come in a rattle can????

The PJ-1 clear has been mentioned as being fairly fuel resistant (epoxy clear? enamel clear? not sure). It might be a good idea to clear it with something that's supposed to offer some fuel protection. Otherwise, that excellent work will be for naught. JMK.

PJ1 clears come in epoxy or enamel gloss and enamel satin, IIRC.

Epoxy's a bit more petrol resistant than enamel, but if you soak *anything* in gas long enough, you've got napalm. ;)
