cafe style seat. was created by 1983LTD750
I was wondering if anyone has any information on how to make this style of seat cover, or if a universal one is available for my 1983 KZ750 LTD.

The one on the Triumph Thruxton is removable, and just bolts on top of the passenger part of the seat.

I know I could make one myself, but I have to experience with fiberglass or anything like that.

any information will help!

thanks,
Chad.

I've searched ebay before, and the dont have just the rear section. I'm not really trying to make it into a cafe racer, since I take my girl for rides alot, and...I dont really race it. I dont want to pay $150 to just hack the rear section off, and have it somehow not be able to work.

I have read that the rear portion of a spare gas tank can be cut off and used to make a cafe seat. I'd be careful cutting the tank though, gotta make sure there's not fumes or gas in there.

ha, thats pretty cool. I bet that would work pretty well.

I'm planning on just making brackets to where I can just screw it on and off, depending on whether or not I'm by myself. That should be perfect.

Dont laff.....but an old wire strainer is what a guy here used awhile back to get that rounded "cafe tail".....just laid up fiberglass over it. Might be worth a shot....

Thats a nice KZ. I'm from Muncie, and I've seen you on the Vintage KZ myspace group.

I like the foot controls, those just bolt right up?

One of the guys here used half of a metal bucket as a tail piece. If you can mock up some MDF for a seat pan, you could just get it upholstered, and be ready to roll.

Here is a cafe seat/tail section I'm helping my buddy fabricate. It's based on a Z1 tail section. Here's an image of my mock-up. I'm planning to do them in both fiberglass and carbon fiber. I could do others if there is demand - 650, 750, etc. If you're interested, PM me. Once I have the seats done, I'll post pics on a bike.
