Timing Advancer - 1982 KZ440 was created by joj2180
I have a 1982 KZ440 LTD-belt with a broken spring on the timing advancer.  I am trying to locate a new timing advancer but that is proving to be difficult.  Anyone have any luck finding/replacing just the springs?

Thanks!
John

The springs off any KZ will work.

Pic of the advancer. There were two kinds of springs. One is a little longer than the other. I might have some you can have.

Z Power in the UK does a set that fits many KZs. They're good springs.

Here is a photo of the advancer.  I am assuming I would replace the one still on the advancer as well.
If you have a few extra springs, that would be great!
Thanks,
John

The spring looks under tension. It may not be for the bike. I'll see what I have and post pics.

It's stretched out. It looks as if it might have been opened up at either end to fit. Either way, you need new springs.

I must have sent the spare springs and parts to one of our members. This is all I have left.   I bought a cheap spark advance from a KZ 750 on eBay and used the springs off it.
This one's $15 free shipping.

What's left of mine.

It's featured in my next video along as one I rebuilt for my Z1. .

Thanks for looking!
I will look for another advancer and remove the springs.
And the springs from any KZ will work, correct?

From what I could see One pair are a little thicker than the other and the arms are heavier. The item I posted sold.

Ideally you want to look at the advance curve in the manual and try and find something with a similar curve. The advance curve in these kind of early mechanical systems is controlled the wheight of the advancers and the spring rate. Back in the day tuners changed the wheights and springs to change the advance curve in hot motors (days before mappable ignition)
