Best stator and regulator? was created by VTEC
About to change both in a J engine. Looking at Z1enterprises, but not sure of the brands. Any ideas on the best aftermarket parts? $400 for the OEM stator is too much.

I think people have had success with Electrosport stators if that is an option.

And of course, you will want to look up as much info by Nessism that you can about the Shindengen (SH775?) regulator.

SH775 and a Rick's stator is my preference. Triumph PN T2500676 is a nice adapter harness for the R/R.

I think I'm going to go with the Rick's stator you suggested, and splurge for a new OEM regulator since my original lasted 38 years without a problem, Last time I did the starter clutch I noticed small pieces broken off the rotor magnets. And recently dropped the oil pan and found one small piece. I'm hoping that's not going to have an effect on the system, and from what I've read these permanent magnets rarely fail. The pieces are coming off the top part of the magnets I guess from age, not inside from stator contact.

Total at Partzilla for stator, rotor and regulator is $1047.05

The OEM R/R is the shunt type. Any power produced by the generator (stator & rotor) that isn't consumed by the bike while running will be returned to the stator by the R/R where it's converted to HEAT. And the heat can shorten the life of your stator. The SH775 is a series type R/R. It shuts off the return current so your stator lives longer. A lot of new modern bikes are using series type R/R's these days. It's like using solid state electronic ignition vs. using points. Better living through technology.

So with the regulator and adapter harness, will these all be weatherproof connectors? And any additional re-wiring required? Thanks for your help Nessism.

Also, think I'm OK with the rotor breakdown? Hate doing things twice!

The only way to know the extent of the rotor magnet disintegration is to pull the stator cover and look. It's rare that it would fail but I'm not going to tell you they can't.

And yes, with that Triumph harness the attachment will be waterproof.

Plug and play with the adapter harness. I don't have to change anything?

Ditto what Nessism said. Like the Frank's Hot sauce commercial goes, i use that s@#t on everything. You have Much more stable clipping and your headlight will be brighter at low RPM. I always keep a spare set around for Suzuki and Kawasaki's. Unless You are just after OEM restoration this combo is new tech "proven" up-grade. Just finished putting one on another Suzuki GS1100.
