Please Help me fix my bike! was created by 74z1900
Hi,

I have a custom chopper. Its an AMEN frame powered by a 74 z1 900 motor, and I have the following problems.

My wiring harness is too short for the handlebars on it.

I need to install directionals, a horn, and a speedometer to pass inspection. I have no idea how to do this, and the guy at the local bike shop gave me an estimate of 1500 bucks to fix it! Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Rob

Nice chopper. Welcome.

I hope I don't state the obvious when I say to get some shorter bars... of course I don't know *how* short your harness is...

You can certainly find stylish indicators and old stock gages on eBay...

The rest will just have to be soldering in patches of wire to bring the harness up. You're going to have to kow about the fundamentals of motorcycle wiring...

I saw some directionals for the z1 on ebay, but they have single wire and dual wire ones. I'm not sure which I need. My wiring harness is maybe 9 inches too short. As far as the bars go, I'm kinda tall, and with the old bars, I had to lean forward, and it was hurting my back, and I figured that since I have a rigid frame bike, I should go easy on my back as much as I can lol. Thank you for the compliment

Looks nice.
Stick a scale on your tach with speed/gear.
Will save hunting and hooking up the speedo.
How far will it go on that tank?

sounds to me like youll have to extend the wiring you need to run the taller bars. get the wiring chart and go at it one by one...steve

Without sounding like a smart-@ss.....do you have the original 74 z1 wire harness?? If so....I'll dig around thru manual and see if I can at least hook you up with what colors are for what. Or maybe someone has the harness scanned and could send you. Check the filebase, too....might be something in there to help you out.
