VM24 viton tipped needle valves was created by 750 R1
Where do I buy viton tipper needle valves for a set of VM 24's off a Z650 ?   I can find piles of mikuni needle valves but I haven't found one with a reference to the VM24ss carbs on the 650. Any help would be much appreciated..

Vm24ss didnt have viton tipped float needle valves. If you currently have them in your carbs they are not original.
if your in the uk then allens performance can supply the correct ones.
If your in the us then someone will be able to advise bedt place over there. Jets r us maybe?

Mikuni 786-15005 is the part family, then you need to pick a size.  2.0 should be fine for a 650.  They are available at various sources in the USA.  Dennis Kirk for example or Jets R Us.

Do they fit vm24ss Nessism? Whats with the wire hoop? Is it supposed to fit over the float tang?

We never got those in the uk.

The wire loop sits over the tang and allows the float needle to be easily lifted out with the float without having to tip the carb or us a magnet etc.
Some needles have them , some don't but they are common worldwide.

What year were they available from Rob? I only do Z's upto 77.
I've stripped literally hundreds of vm22's, 24's 26's and fair few 28's and never found viton tipped needles.

I was just talking about the wire loop.
The rubber tipped needles weren't stock on the VM's but they are on the later CV's and newer Mikunis and can be retro fitted.

Hi Warren, I have new stock needle and seats but they are weeping , not much, but enough to be really annoying. After riding the bike, when I put it on its side stand I get about 2 or 3 little drips over about an hour then they stop, I thought after a few weeks they would seat in but they haven't, hence the viton request. I've had the carbs out 3 times to check absolutely everything so  this is the next step. The needle and seats I used aren't factory parts, but were new. ....

Thanks Ed....

Can you buy just the needles or do they need to be bought with the seats as well ?

Mikuni doesn't sell the needles separate.

Regarding leakage or high fuel levels with new float valves, I've experienced this with lots of sets I've restored.  It's frustrating and the only reason I can think of for that is if the floats increased in density over the years so they don't float as well as they used to.  One day I'm going to buy a set of floats to test my theory.  I did try baking a couple sets of floats for a few hours at 200F and a few of them lightened up by about .2g.  Not much.

Yes, it is frustrating, I've checked the float levels 3 times just to make sure it wasn't them, one float sat noticeably lower than the rest with the levels set at the same height, I originally set the levels to the measurement in the manual , then had to use the clear tube method which was far more accurate...   The carbs were in really good condition inside but I still spent hours making sure everything was clean, they were completely stripped....

The bike has a 710 kit, would this make any difference to the size, I see they come in 1.5 2.0 2.5  sizes
