To clarify, you need to use the 81-83 J model carb holders, and to do that you need to elongate the bolt holes in the carb holders so they will fit on the 650 head.
it would be be a good idea to taper the intake port out to match the carb holder.

why not use a set of 82-84 gpz750 boots as they came with bs34's some of the ltd's and specters had cv carbs too.
I think even the 82 650csr had cv's

The carbs off a J model are larger than the ones on the 83-85 GPz750, I had to get a set of J model carb holders in order to install GSXR throttle bodies on the GPz750, the stock carb holders were to small.

I have an entire article written on installing BS34 carbs on bike which originally fitted with VM series carbs (such as yours was) on my web site.

WG I read your article and also alot of the rest of your page and I think that I may need to talk to you about a rebuild. What is the best way to get started on this? Need rebuild, Pods and correct jetting.

I am very thankful to get feedback on this and would like to ask an additional question: What exactly would I gain and what would I lose by using these carbs on my 650? I rode the 1000 for many years with these carbs and that bike is bad to the bone so I figure the carbs are at least decient.

I have always assumed that the kz1000csr (m1) was a J model but after reading some of the posts here I now am not sure. Does M1 = J?

Finally, my take on the topic is: The carbs would work but need to have the 1000 holders modified (bolt holes wallered out). but if my M1 is not a J model then I may be better off getting J holders.

bigger carbs allow more ponies on the top end, and smaller ones are more responsive in the lower rpms, just decide how you want to drive:laugh: around town, or screamin on the freeway:woohoo:
Im assuming that you are using 26mm or 28mm right?

The 998cc motor is generally called a J model, but the J model bike was a standard.
Kawasaki made a KZ1000J (standard), KZ1000K (LTD), KZ1000M (CSR), and a KZ1000P (Police), all using the same basic motor. IIRC, the KZ1000J had 102 hp (cams and carbs), and the others had 92 hp.

I think the problem you had was A:the gsxr bodies were larger and not spaced the same as the gpz750's
or B:the head was off of the turbo gpz750 which uses the same size I.D. boots as the kz1000/900

I stand by my statemant that both the 82-84 gpz750 and the kz1000j/k/m have bs34 mikunis

The GSXR throttle bodies would not physically fit in the 83 GPz750 (ZX750A1) carb holders, but do fit in the KZ1000J/K/M carb holders.
I have no idea what carbs each one uses (I might look later).

According to Z1 Enterprises:

Fits Kawasaki KZ650H2/H3 KZ750E1-E3/F1/H1-H4/L3/N1/N2/R1 ZX750A-A3/E1/E2

(The E1/E2 are the 84/85 750 Turbo)
www.z1enterprises.com/detail.aspx?ID=1946

Just for grins (and since they happen to be in the house) I just tried again to put the GSXR throttle bodies in the GPz750A1 carb holders, and short of using a hydraulic press or a BFH there ain't no way that they will fit. They do fit in the KZ1000J/K/M carb holders, but it's a tight fit.
I also have KZ750E (1980) carb holders and they are the same size as the GPz750A1.

Maybe they make BS34 carbs with different spigot sizes, I don't know.

I did a bit of searching and discovered that the BS34 Mikuni carbs have been used on everything from a 250 single to the GS1150, including the GPz750A and KZ1000J/K/M, so my guess is there must be different models of BS34 carbs with different spigot diameters.

3 am and I go out to the garage to check:blush:

The KZ1000J/K/M carb holders that I bought from Jeff are to large for the KZ750E carbs that are sitting on the bench, so although both the GPz750 and the KZ1000J/K/M may use BS34 carbs, there must be different models of BS34s.

Now that I am confused, I'm going to bed and hope someone has this all figured out by the time I wake up
