temp fuel source

hey everybody -ive found a great temp fuel source for tuning your carbs-its an old round up weed killer container[the one with the gun]its even got an on -off valve at the bottle cap -you just need to cut the gun off leaving the tube which connects to the carbs/and cut the straw inside the bottle to about 2 inches long[just remember to clean it out real well] works great mike....

I had a small gas can I made mine with but SOB leaks so new ideas/methods are always cool....

Would be mindful that gasoline dissolves many types of plastics, some faster than others. For example, a plastic milk carton filled with gasoline might hold for a few hours before failing.

Some fuel tanks (such as found on lawnmowers) and gasoline spare "cans" are of course produced from some sort of gasoline proof plastic.

Rumor has it that some of the newer gasoline blends will gradually eat through the older fiberglass motorcycle fuel tanks designed to contain the older gasoline blends.

Without knowing much about the many different plastics or which non-gasoline containers might be relatively gasoline-proof, I prefer using a known gasoline-proof container such as an old lawnmower fuel tank as the alternative fuel suppy for running the engine with fuel tank removed.

An on-off valve in the fuel line from the temporary container is cheap and easy.

That said, the Roundup container may do perfectly well for the short time involved, but I wouldn't leave any residual gasoline inside it when finished.

Then there's always the professional model available.

I used to use a lot of roundup when I lived in Florida. That stuff is corrosive as hell so if the plastic bottle will hold up to that stuff, gas should be a piece of cake.

Jeff @ Z1 has a nice little Motion Pro one but @ ~ $40, hell mine works just fine...

I just add two longer hoses and sit my tank on a bench or stool higher than the bike. I just run my petcock on Prime, but I do have an extra vacuum hose if I wanted to run it on ON or Reserve.

Or a lawnmower fuel tank. Used = cheap.

Don't clearly see an on-off valve, but would presume it has one.

Roundup is water-based, and corrosive to metal (such as the trigger spring in a sprayer), but I wouldn't necessarily trust the container for being gas-proof. Same reasoning for plastic hydrocloric acid jugs. Or plastic containers used for Clorox bleach.
