Easy lift onto centerstand

Rolling rear wheel up onto a wood block makes putting bike on centerstand a piece of cake, even for a ninety pound weakling. Almost fun! :laugh:

Once on the centerstand, it's easy to push the block out from underneath the tire.

The block pictured here is made from a short length of 2x12, and with a hi-tech tapered edge. Bike is a 1976 KZ900-B1 LTD.

try this sometime..

Stand next to your bike as if you were going to mount it...

Now reach down with both hands turnin your palms up grab the frame on the same side of the bike that you are standing...(Just in front of the rear tire)

Now, Actuate your center stand to the ground. Just as it touches, Press down hard on the centerstands foot bar and simultaniously lift and roll your bike backwords.

i am 5-5 and 170 and I can center stand anybike using this techniqe.

I hope this helps a bit for those times when you don't have a block of wood handy.

Using the propper technique, it is a simple process to place any bike on the center stand.

Just as it is stated above, momentum is your friend.

Under normal circumstances I'd agree Yukabodos. I use that lifting technique all the time with my 82 kz750 without any problem.

The reason Patton's board setup is helpful is the particular bike that he's using it on. The kz900 Ltd did not originally come with a centerstand because of the exhaust configuration, but the frame supports were there. If the exhaust was replaced, a standard kz900 (or Z1, I'd guess) centerstand can be mounted.

The problem is that the centerstands were designed for 18 inch wheels and the 900 Ltd has a 16 inch rear. That plus the fact that I'm only 5' 8" tall means I pretty much bust a gut trying to get my 900 on the centerstand using the usual technique.

I currently have the bike blocked up rebuilding the front fork so it's not an issue now...but I've got my eyes out for a piece of 2 x 12

I have a 76900LTD and I hang a standard center stand and have no problems. But don't pull back... pull up. It will naturally move back. Make sure to step down on the center stand arm too. I'm a little taller than you but I am pretty old too. Not quite in fighting shape. I certainly don't bust a gut. But pull straight up as you are stepping and it's really pretty easy even on a 900 LTD.

so lemme get this straight....you have a hard time center standing a motorcycle?????

Link, Don't let the razzing get to you. It's all in good fun (well, MOST of it).
I use the blocks for the simple reason that my 4-1 aftermarket exhaust is in the way of my mc lift. I have fabbed a special cradle for the lift that lets me p/u the bike w/o removing the exhaust.
I need that extra lift from the blocks to get the cradle underneath.
BTW, 2x8 is what I use.
