The Survivor 1976 KZ900

Thank you for the help already. I've picked up some JIS screwdrivers and bits, ordered some mystery oil, researched brakes on the site and now I'm just going to stare at it for a while. Mikaw I'll take some mounting pics today for the luggage rack and crash bars. 

She's fairly clean. There was a mouse who took up residence in the airbox, little bit of rust here and there but overall better then expected. Pipes are so so so, need some advice there. The tank is clean,  carb boots are soft, original tires still hold air. The pics make her look amazing and I wish my phone camera did that for me too. Thanks!

Yep!  Very nice find!  If your pipes are gone you can buy reproductions.  I have a couple of sets of Doremi pipes and I like them.

It's your's, But I would take that roll bar and back rack off. You will love looking at it in it's OEM state.
Maybe the repop exhaust? Or Another back half set of mufflers, cut these, maintain the front tubes..

I bought this same green bike in 1977 and poured paint stripper on the perfect tank and cut the back 1/2 off of the umbrella pipes as we called them! in spring of 1978!  We all did this!

Beautiful bike! I hope you can source the two bottom mufflers. The bike is amazing! Even the headers are bright chrome; no discoloration from lean conditions. If you can get the new mufflers, and if needed, replace the silencers in the top ones. You can avoid any discoloration of the headers. Even the deer in the corner of the garage seems to be impressed, lol.

Thank you. I bought a use KHI luggage rack and crash bars, but they didn’t have the U-bolt clamps. Are they 8mm?

The tank looks showroom fresh. It is a fine survivor. Cleaned up nice...!

That's as close to a museum quality survivor as we've seen in a long time.  At the very least it's a VGC reference bike.

Make sure you insure it for agreed value.  Hagerty specializes in vintage motor vehicles & will work with you on insured value.

We'd be torn as to whether to keep the crash bar if it was ours.  Ugly but effective period items.  A simple parking lot drop will at least scar a motor cover.  OEM covers of like cosmetic quality are increasingly rare & pricey.  We run the much smaller motor case guards on all our Z1's.

I've finished the rough draft on the bike and it starts, runs and stops. I’ve had a fairly decent learning curve so when I added fuel to it last night and it fired up instantly I was absolutely amazed, I’m still in shock. So far the only parts I've had to replace are the front brake master cylinder and the exhaust and I plan on doing my best to get that old master cylinder back on. I rebuilt the carburetors, front brake caliper, fuel petcock, replaced the exhaust, installed a new battery, put in new plugs and fluids and that’s it pretty much it. I took her for a spin around the block and got a little excited with the throttle and overestimated the brakes and almost skidded through my garage door. She’s still got the original tires so new rubber is required I’ve just got to find something period correct. When typing out what I’ve done it doesn’t seem like a lot but I’ve had a decent learning curve and it included reconfiguring the garage to work on bikes, so it was just enough. I've got to get it insured and take it for a spin so who knows what will happen after the first ride. I'm pretty excited and I've got to say she sure is pretty! This site has been vital so thanks!

You found a real gem. It looks awesome for a 45year old all OEM bike. It cleaned up great. Rims look good. I see the rear is a Dunlop k87. Is the front a F6? The K87 is available but nobody is making the F6. All you can get for the front is an F11. Or you can can go to the Dunlop TT100. That’s what I have, only because I had a NOS TT100 front so instead of buying two I bought the matching rear. What brand exhaust did you hang.
