75 Z1 project was created by Tim
After many years of asking I finally got a shot at this bike and I jumped. The original owner is a old friend so I have the history. 13+K miles, nothing ever taken off other than tires. This bike is a time capsule sitting near 30 years. My plan is to make it an original rider. Going to start at the front cleaning and replacing/rebuilding whatever I can do. I need good part sources and advice. Other than a H2 750 I had 35 years ago I have no street bike experience. I'm also wondering how far to clean. Do I leave patina on? Do I go for clean and polish everywhere? Not sure.

Thank you
Tim

What patina? That thing looks about as close to factory fresh as it gets!

Congrats on the new bike!

Nice bike; I would clean it up for sure, but since you plan to ride it I wouldn’t get too carried away with trying to make it pristine. See the link below for info that should be helpful. If nothing else, be sure to read the part about JIS vs Phillips fasteners as that can save you many dollars, headaches, and much time. BTW, are you sure the rear tire was ever changed? That poor thing is bald and might have the full 13k miles on it. Ed

First get a Z1 seriers services manual ( the white vinyl covered one) when you work on the bike read the manual !!!!!!! it will explain to you with photos how to fix replace trouble shoot everything !!!
I'd find a nice front wheel and rotor. rebuild the master cylinder and caliper, you might need brake hoses as well. basic tune up maybe chains and sprockets. Give the bike a good cleaning with scrubbing bubbles. Don't use any simple green or purple power Hang some repo exhaust and ride the piss out of it. !!!!

Nice score dude I'm envious

You may be right Ed.

A new front wheel? Planning on cleaning up this one, it should be fine shouldn't it? Does the rotor have to be changed or can it be turned? I don't know these things yet. I have the tank full of metal rescue now. I am surprised it's not too bad in there. Finally got the lid open. Heres the manual I got with it.

Where should I get parts from?

Thanks

Just drain all the fluids and park it in the living room and stare at it.

I saw wheels in this condition with rust spots on the out side but after removing the old hard tire.
Surprise, the inside surface of the rim was full of rust. During removing the rust there were a lot of see through holes in the rim.
